  1. Past hour
  2. Noticed that piano too. The drummer's style was not what I expected either. Not bad, but not sure how much of a match it is for this tune. Still, probably a good release for any Art fan because really, how many live recordings of him from the 50s are there? All the live sets I have are 70s onward and in a much different style. I'd love to hear a ballad from this set. I'll probably end up getting it.
  3. Inclined to agree. Plus, the piano sounds out of tune (though that's not rare in clubs) and the sonics are not great (as might be expected from the tape source).
  4. Today
  5. Found a track: Art is bringing it but in comparison to other versions of this tune, I don't know...this rhythm section sounds a bit stuck in the mud on this one. Or is that just me?
  6. Omnivore is a very good company, they do a nice job on their releases.
  7. I should have mentioned in my list: Jon Jang, Two Flowers on a Stem Andrew Cyrille w/James Newton, X-Man and Good to Go: A Tribute to Bu (I like the duets w/Jimmy Lyons and the quarters with David S Ware too, but return to these 2 the most)
  8. After reading some of the Black Saint / Soul Note thread:
  9. yes, the Lacys & Waldrons... while there are recordings by each I would pull out before those, they're still really good and Seagulls is super.
  10. Off the top of my head, this (CD2) and this F
  11. I think the labels are consistently outstanding. I particularly like these Black Sains: Marcello Melis - The New Village On The Left... (I first heard about this album with Roswell Rudd, Enrico Rava and Don Moye - as well as Sardinian singers! - way back when in the Funny Rat thread as a recommendation from late brownie) Frank Lowe - The Flam Don Cherry, Dewey Redman, Charlie Haden, Ed Blackwell - Old and New Dream Charles Bobo Shaw Human Arts Ensemble - Junk Trap The John Carter Quintet - Night Fire Muhal Richard Abrams - Blues Forever Wayne Horvitz; Lawrence D. "Butch" Morris; William Parker - Some Order, Long Understood Jimmy Lyons Quintet - Give It Up Glenn Spearman Double Trio - Smokehouse What We Live (Lisle Ellis; Larry Ochs; Donald Robinson) - Fo(u)r and these Soul Notes Bill Dixon - In Italy, both volumes Jaki Byard - To Them - To Us (my favorite Byard album) Andrew Cyrille - The Navigator Kenny Clarke; Andrew Cyrille; Milford Graves; Don Moye - Pieces of Time Max Roach Quartet - Scott Free Enrico Rava Quintet - Secrets BassDrumBone (Mark Helias; Gerry Hemingway; Ray Anderson) - Wooferlo Paul Nash - The Soul Of Grace The Michael Marcus 3 - Live in N.Y. The Fringe (George Garzone; John Lockwood; Bob Gullotti) - Live In Israel

  13. We made a donation in support of Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz and attended this live taping of the only television edition of the program at SCETV Studios. We received a VHS copy of it, a limited edition of 50. "In Your Own Sweet Way" was a second take necessitated by some problem at the board during take one, which was complete. Dave Brubeck said, "I liked the first one better" during the set. The duo piano CD with Mark Shane and Johnny Varro was recorded live at the 1998 and 1999 Atlanta Jazz Party.
  14. Thanks for clarifying. That now makes sense. It definitely is very poorly worded.
  15. Regarding Boby Wilber & Kenny Davern: Summit Reunion in Atlanta: If the engineer did record the cussing between takes, I believe that it was erased or edited out of the recording. We never did figure out what it was that provoked Davern's outburst and I can't ask producer Phil Carroll, as he died in 2008. I feel it might be taken the wrong way if I asked his son.
  16. Did they happen to get this on the recording?
  17. I was present for both sets one of the two nights, I think it was May 3 2019. Again, I was present for whichever trio tracks that are included from both sets on May 3, 2019, featuring Buster Williams and Matt Wilson
  18. Abdullah Ibrahim “3” Gearbox 2 cd set, disc 1 Amazing music, incredible recording and mastering.
  19. It's awkwardly worded but I think it's meant to indicate that most of the incomplete songs run to near completion before the tape ran out.
  20. The special guest is Randy Sandke.
  21. 6 tracks of 32 total are incomplete.
  22. Thanks. I am a big Art pepper fan and this looks very promising. However, the following (highlighted by me) has me a bit wary: "Everything Happens To Me: 1959 – Live At The Cellar utilizes a fly-on-the-wall approach that includes all the existing music as the recordings happened. As a result, the 4-CD / Digital set includes some incomplete tracks, but most songs run near to completion." I can understand if some songs may have not been taped and are missing but what does "most songs run near to completion" mean? That is odd wording and seems to imply that most songs are not complete (it says most songs only run "near to completion"). Can that be true? I hope not.
  23. I added the discogs link below so you can see what material is included on the 7 CDs and 1 Blu-ray. Again, my copy lacks the book. Here is a nice copy of the recent Who Are You Super Deluxe box set at about half of the new price because this copy is missing the book. It has everything else - CDs, blu-ray, outer box. But no book. The Who – Who Are You 2025 Super Deluxe box set (7 CD/1 Blu-ray), missing book. It contains all 8 discs and the slipcover that holds them, plus the outer slipcover. Missing the book. All is in NM condition - the outer box is still in original shrink wrap with hype sticker attached but the shrink wrap has been opened on side edge to be able to retrieve contents. https://www.discogs.com/release/35497960-The-Who-Who-Are-You $65 (+ $7 media mail shipping) U.S. shipping only.
