Jose James “On and On” Rainbow Blonde US cd This is an homage to the music of Erykah Badu and James gets the vibe just right with his own imprint. I had a quite expensive Japanese cd of this and then discovered there was an inexpensive US version, which I just got in–it will be part of a birthday present for my best friend in Austin. Sounds really good!

Last night we celebrated Henry Threadgill's 82nd birthday by playing his recordings in the first 20 minutes of each hour and, man, was that enlightening. "I can't think of anything more mainstream than what I do," he told the crowd in 2014, which was quoted again on Jazz Night In America which we aired on Sunday. I couldn't agree more! Tonight we're featuring Kahil El'Zabar's Ethnic Heritage Ensemble. They're playing tomorrow in Greenwich Village at NuBlu and then on the 21st at The MET Museum (800 plus, sold out). And tonight's program repeats throughout the day tomorrow. Etc. I bit on both the 6-CD Cutting Edge (great book and photos, just skimming through them so far) and the Live 1966 boxes, both found online at very good prices, and have started to dig into them. I'm still only three CDs into Through the Open Window, so I think I'm set for Dylan listening material for awhile!

I'm on the 6th book in Karin Slaughter's Will Trent series. I have been enjoying the ABC TV adaptation, so I thought I'd like the books. I do. It's unfortunate that the television show diverged from the books so much though. The two are nothing alike, from physical descriptors to character presentation.
