  1. Past hour
  2. I first heard of her when I bought biographical novel called "Waiting For Robert Capa". I'd bought it because I liked he title and the cover photo. It's pretty good. (I've also read a pretty bad "Young Adult" book called "One Last Shot" which is sort of a poem. ) Gerda died in the arms of Ted Allen a man I've met but before I'd ever heard of Gerda so I never asked him about her. A friend of mine who'd made a film about Ted told me she was the love of his life.
  3. Today
  4. I still don't understand how the courts are granting ownership to someone who doesn't own the item. If they can do this for valuable artwork, what's to stop them from doing it with something like real estate? People make millions & millions of dollars on real estate. Are builders going to start getting a cut?
  5. Avantis -- 4 eller 5 Avantis -- (Sweet Dragon)
  6. yes, it's called "droit de suite," usually when sales are above previous market value. we're also talking about, say, a modern artwork selling for millions of dollars, not an LP.
  7. Is that really a thing? How could anyone claim rights to something they don't own? Once I buy something, it's mine, not the previous owner's. If this is a thing, what's to stop record labels from getting money on used sales?
  8. yeah, it's not like artworks in which -- and this is a fairly recent development -- estates or artists can make claims on a percentage of sales via auction houses. Doubt Blue Note recouped costs on a poorly selling album like True Blue in the first place. It's staggering to think of paying $7500 for an LP (or even $2000. Or even $1000).
  9. I don’t see how they would. Putting aside the fact that artists were poorly paid by labels, this is the sale by one collector to another. The estate would not have any claim on such sales.
  10. and just starting
  11. The great Gerda Taro.
  12. These Apple Music compilations are head-scratchers to me. I guess I don't see why they think a compilation will get more plays than the actual LPs that they pulled the music from (in this case, "Grant's First Stand" & "Stop & Listen")... unless it's a way to avoid paying mechanical royalties to the artists?
  13. Yesterday I was greatly surprised I have not this one: I was ready to swear I had in my collection, actually I was looking for this one to play! Will buy it after the vacation, definitely. Now:
  14. 👍 - as LP CANDID CS 9027 [Germany 1985] with Obi on my shelf ...
  15. One of the 85th Anniversary UHQCD from Blue Note Japan mastered by Kevin Gray, Sonny Clark “My Conception.” Previous cover of this album: An all-star band. I keep hearing Bud Powell every time I listen to Sonny Clark.
  16. Quite a ts-find here. Philips box in absolute unplayed mint condition easily worth around 60-70 euro's. Man, i love Charity- thiftstore hunting ! Happy the crumbling styrofoam didn't ruined the records. I didn't even have to clean the records.
  17. Bob Dylan “The Bootleg Series Vol. 12 - 1965-1966 The Cutting Edge Collector’s Edition” disc 14 Oh that sad-eyed lady of the lowlands!
  18. One for All “Upward and Onward” Criss Cross cd
  19. Posting to remember Tom Bellino, an upstate New York jazz "force". You will find very little information online about his death-very unassuming person. Managed the Village Vanguard Orchestra for years and was behind the PlanetArts website and label. https://www.local802afm.org/allegro/articles/tom-bellino/ From Bill McCann's FB post: "Sunday, September 7th, at 2 pm at Beattie-Powers Place in Catskill, there will be a MUSICAL TRIBUTE TO THOMAS BELLINO, who passed away earlier this year. Thomas Bellino was truly a great guy and has been said - a tremendous force in the jazz world. His organization, Planet Arts, produced many outstanding recordings, and Tom tirelessly produced countless concerts in NY State, the United States, and literally around the world. It is a tremendous loss to his many friends and family and to the jazz community alike. Scott Petito, Chris Pasin and Michael Benedict will be hosting a relaxed "Jam" session with musicians associated with Tom during his many decades in jazz. Again, the event will start at 2pm and will take place at Beattie-Powers Place in Catskill, NY. (beattiepowers.org) Tom truly deserves such a tribute."
