Ravi Coltrane and Terence Blanchard are touring with a tribute concert. I was scheduled to see it last night in Santa Barbara but they were snowed in somewhere in the east. (In the '70s here.)

Can't find the source right now, but I remember reading in a Jones interview somewhere that Keiko had studied piano in Japan. I really dig her tunes, as well, especially "Mr. Jones."

RIP. He left behind some great trio work plus some fine albums with Liebman and in Abercrombie's quartet.

Any rumblings about Century Celebrations for Davis or Coltrane? Reissues, newly discovered recordings?

3 steps to the door. We got over two feet but it drifted, so it's hard to get an exact number. Luckily, it was light and fluffy, so my Honda snowblower ate it up. Honda makes (made?) the best snowblowers. They throw the snow a long way. That's the biggest issue with most snowblowers is they don't throw it far enough.

Indeed. Those three albums are stellar, IMO. ECM reissued them in one of their plain-white-box sets. I only got to see him play one time also, just before COVID hit. It was a show at Mezzrow, a duo performance with Dave Liebman. Saw both sets. Most memorable was a LONG, way way out version of "Green Dolphin Street." I had a chance to chat briefly with Richie between sets. I said, "I've NEVER heard 'Green Dolphin Street' like THAT." Richie smiled and said, "I haven't either!" It's interesting that both Beirach and Liebman -- for different reasons -- had a falling out with Manfred Eicher.

I had heard he was very ill but I was hoping he could pull through. I only got to see him play once but it was a very long time ago and I don't remember much about it... I think it was with Dave Liebman. His duet album with George Coleman, "Convergence", is really good. One of the better duet albums out there.
-
Let's not forget his contributions to the John Abercrombie Quartet (basically late 70s). R.I.P.

Oliver, Do they mention what year are her last documented gigs? I am really curious why Mingus was talking about her as late as 1965-1966.

V-Disc Big Band Set Is Coming!!!
scooter_phx replied to JSngry's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Funny man. Shame it didn't come just prior to the weather going nuts. Jazzbo could have just sat down with an adult beverage and enjoyed. -
Sad, RIP. The above video is very interesting on the context of the time and specifically on the relationship with producer Manfred Eicher around Beirach's Hubris.

How many steps up to the entryway?

Thanks for posting this. It was a very interesting watch. The last part of her life (quitting music and leading a simple life) was something I didn't know at all of. Continued by watching excerpts from Berliner Jazztage also on Arte replay, watching Ellington (1979) and Oregon (1980).

resurrecting an old thread (it's not really an new release anymore) Has anyone compared the SQ of the DVD with the double CD set Trying to decide whether to go for the bonus visuals (DVD) or audio only (CD)

This is what I came home to.

And if there's a boot, then it's probably on YouTube as well.
