    Jackie McLean

This has been posted before on this board. I just watched it again this morning. So good.
  3. Eugene Chadbourne – Volume One: Solo Acoustic Guitar An idle stream. I'm not sure whether it is worth much more than that. As a kid I remember Chadbourne's name being everywhere.
  4. Up, to go with the other (current) Simmons thread. Simmons and Donald, musically, were a dream team.
  5. There was a Japanese mini-LP edition (compact disc) of The Cry that was available for about three seconds in the early 2000's. It's one of the best-sounding compact discs I own. Howard Holzer recorded the session (as Roy DuNann had recently left Contemporary, I think). We still need Rumasuma to come out on compact disc...or vinyl. I almost never purchase vinyl these days, but I'd jump on a copy of Rumasuma. C'mon Instagram hipsters, get it reissued! 😁 There aren't too many records from the 60's or 70's with Simmons and Barbara Donald together. Off the top of my head, I can only think of five. (Two ESP's, two on Contemporary, and one on Arhoolie.) Maybe there are more?
  6. Very much agreed. I had to look up the difference between 15 ips (inches per second) and 7.5 ips. Here's what Google told me: "15 IPS (inches per second) is the professional standard, offering superior high-frequency response, lower noise, and less "wow and flutter" compared to 7.5 IPS, making it ideal for mastering and high-fidelity recording. 7.5 IPS offers good, "vintage" sound quality with better low-end, lower tape costs, and longer recording times, often preferred for home recording, or a warmer colored tone."
  7. yeah, I have one and it does sound great indeed. This is interesting to read. I interviewed both musicians separately; each took credit for similar circumstances and stories. It was difficult to untangle and the truth was hard to land on.

  9. I haven’t been able to locate Norman Granz’s The Jazz Scene for awhile now. Although I’ve sold off some CDs, I know this is one that is just lost somewhere.
  10. I know this is a real minor point but I like that this cd and the Blue Train masters were issued in a jewel case rather than a digipak as the latter always seems to get damaged.
  11. Who is the Artist performing the version on 'Le Jazz Fait Son Cirque'? I wonder how the tune got to Parlan's attention?
  12. the trumpet and sax solos are the same on the call mingus moves and the call atlantic box 7cd. yes? i think the producers of the cd box made a mistake somewhere.
  13. Lesli Dalaba - Trumpet Songs And Dances ( Solos & Duets)
  14. Grant Green “Slick!–Live at Oil Can Harry’s” Resonance cd A very nice version of one of my favorite Jobim tunes, "How Insensitive". . . .
  15. Sorry, my bad re wrong CD - indeed it is Mingus Moves My two versions of the Call from the box set & the individual CD sound slightly different with the flute continuing to almost the end of the track on the box set CD version whereas on the individual CD version the flute is much less audible & cuts off well before the end of the track (maybe the remix improved the volume of the flute in the mix? & these are the same tracks??) 16. Okay. Here is a new one. I'll be in Copenhagen and in San Diego later this year. Does anyone have any good suggestions?
  17. Ts find , from the bin again. Originally released on Philips. Good find ...
  18. the bonus versions of big alice and the call are on mingus moves, not on 'three or four shades...'. the call on the cd box is the same take as on mingus moves. so, the vinyl version of the box set should have a new alternate take of 'the call', and 2 more takes of big alice, which are not available on the cd version of the box. discogs: vinyl outtakes: O1 Music For "Todo Modo" (Take 1) 9:47 on cd box too O2 Big Alice (Take 1) 4:55 on cd box too O3 Big Alice (Take 2) 5:44 P1 Big Alice (Take 3) 4:54 P2 Big Alice (Take 4) 5:44 probably on mingus moves P3 The Call (Take 1) 7:15* P4 The Call (Take 2) 7:16* * one of these is on mingus moves.
