The Orphan Newsboys “Extra!” Jazzology cd This outfit led by Marty Grosz is always a fun listen. Marty sings in a Fats Waller style better than anyone I’ve ever heard, a skill born from love. And he may not admit it but he plays a better guitar than Eddie Condon. So, a little less than 4 weeks til we and all our stuff moves to Pittsburgh. As of this post, I think we’re about 60% packed (+/-5%) — and since neither of us are working any more, we should be 90% done within 2 weeks. Which is good, because we’re taking 2-3 days to run up to PGH with a carload of artwork — plus a few clothes, and some kitchen stuff — the week before the movers take everything. Won’t be too much longer!!

I think he emerged around the time I left Chicago, or maybe a little after, though I believe I did see him once (struggling to remember the exact context & it was probably in NYC). Excellent player indeed.

Yes it is a streaming platform. When they started out uploading Schaap reels, I offered edited/audio optimized MP3 recordings but nobody every took me up on that offer.

Sound is surprisingly good. But the LP length playing time makes me wonder what their source was.

I'm guessing the Japanese market will eventually reissue a bunch of titles. I'm hoping for an album called Kind of Blue. And another rare-ish one—Blue Train.
