  2. Monophonics "Sage Motel" (Colemine) 2022 ....
  3. Tito Puente "Santa Isabel De Las Lajas" (Tico Records) 1978 .... Luigi Texidor on lead vocals .... it was about time ....
  4. Yep. And like Pat Williams, he is underrepresented on LP and CD.
  5. Carl Hiaasen's books have been great. His characters are hilarious. Too bad he hasn't put out too many books lately. He used to put a new one out every two years but since he started mixing children's books, it stretched to 3 or 4 years between books. His last one, "Squeeze Me", was hilarious...it was also his most political one yet.
  6. Today
  7. I buy mostly historical books and biographies new, although there are a couple of novelists that I include, one of them a guy who grew up five doors away from me, Carl Hiaasen (Striptease, made into a movie starring Demi Moore and Burt Reynolds). I love Hiaasen’s gift for the absurd and parodies of real life people, including the pervert congressman in Striptease, inspired by the arrest of J. Herbert Burke outside of a Broward County nude bar in the mid-1970s for causing a disturbance and drunkenness, plus the thinly disguised lampoon of Geraldo Rivera as Reynaldo Phlegm in Skin Tight.
  8. Which makes absolutely no sense for a fundraiser. If you have a fundraiser and find that there is demand for the item, make more and raise more money. Limiting it is just limiting your own ability to raise those funds. Just dumb. And, as I said, I tried going through the process to join the LAJ just so I could buy this set but during the process, there was no way to get that set, even though it was being advertised as a membership drive "perk".
  9. Michael talked about this in an interview. These were the tunes he was able to find the titles to when Lion sent him the session logs.
  10. Yes, I feel increasingly old, "enough to be you father" at least, at Oto which is very encouraging...the performers are getting younger too!
  11. I have always bought books and will always buy books. But nothing philosophical or too deep, just for relaxing. I mean if it is something non musical, I don´t want to have to figure out heavy stuff, that´s it.
  12. What I would say is that it was a hearteningly young audience. Very nice to see.
  13. Robyn Hitchcock "Groovy Decay" (Albion Records) 1982 ....
  14. Yep, the interest for me was largely from Amadou and Corsano. I wanted more variation from Amba definitely, I thought the piano interlude worked to do that. And, Oto need to do something about their front row photographers, I'm finding them increasingly intrusive but that might be because I'm getting increasingly grumpy.
  15. I used an earlier version of this program, but found it made some weird bit-reduction effect, almost sounding like a low resolution mp3. This was years ago though and they may have improved it: https://acondigital.com/products/deverberate/
  16. I really came away thinking that she had about five tricks and not much more. Amadou made it good by tying it together and keeping it punky, which meant that I was less concerned by Amba's repeating herself.
  17. Art Tatum “Jewels in the Treasure Box–The 1953 Chicago Blue Note Jazz Club Recordings” Resonance Records 3 cd set, disc 1 What an exciting release! A great trio in great sound (for a 1953 club recording).
  18. Magos Herrera “Whispering Orchids” cd
  19. She plays flute to good effect on an album I enjoy. I think the sameness is one of my Amba doubts. I came across Amadou at the Brötzmann memorial concert, she was impressive then too. I need to look up her recordings
  20. No flute. Very similar to the first set, really. Do you know Amadou in any other setting? I don't think I have ever heard of her.
  21. I was there for the first set only. I agree that Amadou was the standout, I liked Corsano a lot and left with some nagging doubts about Amba. Friend I went with identified harmoldics in Amadou too. Did Amba play flute at all in the second set?
  22. The Staves „Blood I Bled EP“ (Atlantic) 2014 ….
  23. Lazar Berman "performs Schumann and Liszt "live" @ Montreal in 1990 .... a great pianist hands down ....
  24. 😁 💗 Love it. A 'classic' for me. Yes indeed a great compilation. Have the UA & PJ material on vinyls 😁 💗 👍
