  1. Past hour
  2. Yes, I feel increasingly old, "enough to be you father" at least, at Oto which is very encouraging...the performers are getting younger too!
  3. Today
  4. I have always bought books and will always buy books. But nothing philosophical or too deep, just for relaxing. I mean if it is something non musical, I don´t want to have to figure out heavy stuff, that´s it.
  5. What I would say is that it was a hearteningly young audience. Very nice to see.
  6. Robyn Hitchcock "Groovy Decay" (Albion Records) 1982 ....
  7. Yep, the interest for me was largely from Amadou and Corsano. I wanted more variation from Amba definitely, I thought the piano interlude worked to do that. And, Oto need to do something about their front row photographers, I'm finding them increasingly intrusive but that might be because I'm getting increasingly grumpy.
  8. I used an earlier version of this program, but found it made some weird bit-reduction effect, almost sounding like a low resolution mp3. This was years ago though and they may have improved it: https://acondigital.com/products/deverberate/
  9. I really came away thinking that she had about five tricks and not much more. Amadou made it good by tying it together and keeping it punky, which meant that I was less concerned by Amba's repeating herself.
  10. Art Tatum “Jewels in the Treasure Box–The 1953 Chicago Blue Note Jazz Club Recordings” Resonance Records 3 cd set, disc 1 What an exciting release! A great trio in great sound (for a 1953 club recording).
  11. Magos Herrera “Whispering Orchids” cd
  12. She plays flute to good effect on an album I enjoy. I think the sameness is one of my Amba doubts. I came across Amadou at the Brötzmann memorial concert, she was impressive then too. I need to look up her recordings
  13. No flute. Very similar to the first set, really. Do you know Amadou in any other setting? I don't think I have ever heard of her.
  14. I was there for the first set only. I agree that Amadou was the standout, I liked Corsano a lot and left with some nagging doubts about Amba. Friend I went with identified harmoldics in Amadou too. Did Amba play flute at all in the second set?
  15. The Staves „Blood I Bled EP“ (Atlantic) 2014 ….
  16. Lazar Berman "performs Schumann and Liszt "live" @ Montreal in 1990 .... a great pianist hands down ....
  17. 😁 💗 Love it. A 'classic' for me. Yes indeed a great compilation. Have the UA & PJ material on vinyls 😁 💗 👍
  18. This was my very very first Charlie Parker album, a double LP. I didn´t know nothing about Parker until I heard that "Parkeriana" on a Mingus Album featuring Dolphy. I thought, if Parker is so great, he must be the next artist I have to get to know. I love this album still, because it does not have all those alternative tracks, just the masters..... so you can just spin it and hear all the tunes..... It´s interesting that on one side of the album is also a quintet that has Bud Powell playing but I remember that at that time I didn´t notice the piano solos and maybe Bud is also quite subdued and weakly recorded on that. I remember in my first "Parker-Year" I had four Parker albums: This Savoy Mastertakes, than a brown LP called "Jazz Tracks" that has the Carnegie Hall Concert and some of the Dial Session", then two live LPs from CBS: "One Night at Birdland" (where I first heard Bud Powell and never have heard better Bud), and a similar album "Summit Meeting at Birdland".
  19. Should be a singular experience. Never caught one in person but have 3 recordings.
