  1. So, What Are You Listening To NOW?

    From the Henderson Mosaic box
  2. What vinyl are you spinning right now??

Got hold of a spare. No chances taken on this one ! Have to admit it sounds great - even if it did cost a king’s ransom. Having said that, the moment I bought it, the price here seemed to drop £10.. Have to say that this session really comes to life on the vinyl version. Enjoyed the Conn CD but always though it sounded a bit like a rehearsal. This richer sound is a real plus. Hopefully turntable-trained ! All the very best with your new place..
  3. Billy Harper scare.

    Excellent news !
  4. So, What Are You Listening To NOW?

Must dig that out on vinyl. From a rare picosecond back in the late 80s when Virgin got interested in jazz again. They had a similar rush to the head in the 70s with Clifford Thornton, Grachan Moncur III etc.

and what’s that about a Columbia Kind of Blue mono? Surely you don’t want to slum it with that - on the Hoffman Board you are nobody unless you have the Super High Definition whatsit in its leatherette case.
  6. Goooooooooooooooooooooooooool

I have to disagree - both teams were very ordinary. England were especially poor - no pace or ideas.
  7. Goooooooooooooooooooooooooool

Load of rubbish all round !
  8. What vinyl are you spinning right now??

More Pacific Jazz on the Jazz West Coast imprint. This series had some good compilations.
  9. What vinyl are you spinning right now??

Yeah, I saw that. The mania exhibited on that thread is only rivalled by the 2021 RSD thread on that forum. Reminds me of the ‘Messiah’ sketch on Life of Brian. Good sounding session though !
  10. What vinyl are you spinning right now??

Pacific Jazz DG stereo Drummer Doug Sides resident and gigging over here in the UK !
  11. Harold Land - Westward Bound!

My LP version is in the mail, courtesy of the Men From Barcelona.
  12. Goooooooooooooooooooooooooool

Unusual to see the Germany manager sweating and worrying on the bench. Agree that the French team showed more flair and pace in their attacks.
  13. I think my copy is in better shape. Doesn’t have the Joe signature though. That deep groove must be the factor on this one. Can’t recall ever seeing one on this title. At the end of the day, it’s only indicative of the die being used.

Worth getting. This cut has lots of ‘presence’ and the quality is up there. I never heard last year’s vinyl version but this looks to be a better quality issue all round. Even the Hoffman Board RSD review thread is raving about it ! What you get on this one is more of a straight transfer from tape, warts and all. ‘Grandmixer DXT’ (whoever he is) who did the processing on the original issue is short-circuited. The sound to me has more presence and ‘air’.
  15. What vinyl are you spinning right now??

Wasn’t originally going to get this as I have the (then globally rare) CD but I wanted it on vinyl. First impressions - they did a really nice job, admittedly pricey over here but it does include facsimile poster, concert programme and booklet. The music and performance of course is superb. Sound is nice and crisp, matt sleeve is sort of like old style Impulse.
  16. What vinyl are you spinning right now??

Absolutely right. If the whole album had been at that level, it would be a classic.

    I just ban them..and dogs ...

It’s a bit of a mixed bag with a definite commercial slant but overall I like it. McCartney’s ‘Jet’ for example was never going to be a modern jazz standard. Having said that, I think the band has been well captured and the trumpet pyrotechnics always impressive. I think there is one killer cut - ‘Superbone Meets The Bad Man’ which finishes off side 2, with a good outing for Bruce Johnstone (who I think was a hang over from the Ernie Garside UK band) on baritone. I think ex board member ‘Deep’ is on drums on this LP ! I saw Maynard here in the UK with an orchestra similar to this one about 5 years later and have fond memories of it. Maynard played quite a bit on superbone that night.
