I hope none of the negative discussion (initiated by ME) distracts from the well deserved honors to Joe McPhee! All the best big Joe. -

Never any corrections from me. I am a peasant with a peasant's lack of understanding and disregard for the proper stuff. If you do not understand anything I say, ask for a translation.

I am really curious about the exclusion of AACM players. Muhal and George Lewis are in town. People who played at the Velvet Lounge don't really count. It is friggin' NYC and the best you can do it this. How about the BAG guys too. Oliver Lake is worth whatever you could manage. Too late for Julius. Ann and I were thinking of spending a shitload for the events, but........... -
All of this gives me the creeps. I knew the fine bass player Milton Suggs in Chicago - he worked with Betty Carter and others. He was a kind person killed way too early by disease. Can't shake that to enjoy the rest. Sorry to fuck up the thread.

First of all, there are only 4 Deccas (New York, New York; At the Five Spot; In Kansas City; Jazz in the Space Age)-- not enough for a Select. Secondly, all with the exception of In KC have been released domestically. There is more than enough material left over from the "KC" sessions to fill out a good Select.

Sorry if I wasn't clear - I will keep the machine and am looking for answers about the supplies. -
For years a Selectric II was my daily work machine. Still have it and it needs a re-hab to work smoothly. No inclination to do that now but I can't get rid of it for some reason. Sometime in the late '80s/early '90s our fine town had a citywide garage sale. The county's largest employer (Howmet Corp - now Alcoa/Howmet) was changing their tech and donated some office supplies to the sale. Long story short, Ann came home with 2 cases of supplies. Remaining from that haul are (as far as I can tell) 167 "High Yield Correctable Film Ribbon" cassettes and 115 "Lift-Off Tapes". They are packaged 6 to a carton. I'd hate to send these to a landfill. Any suggestions?

Thanks to all for the messages. My birthday is the only day or the year Ann will fix fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy for lunch. Tonight I am rewarded with cold fried chicken, another favorite. Ann is the best.

These lps formed my initial passion for the music: By the end of high school I could sing solos from all of these records.

Still basking in my youth on this side of the Atlantic. Never mention "returns" to someone in the record biz.

Thanks.

This thread reminds me of a situation a few years back when Uncle Skid joined Ann and me in Ann Arbor for Edge Fest. "The Trio" (Roscoe, George & Muhal) were performing. Anyway, we were looking for some place to eat after the gig and all we could find was a Wild Wings place. I don't think Skid will ever forget the dinner conversation.

So Alfred and Ike decided against release. I would say this is probably an informed decision.
