  1. Possibly my favorite Messengers date.
  2. I had hoped this would be a complete EMI recordings set - It is not. Not sure how much is missing but from my lp collection; Beethoven Violin Concerto, Brahms 1, Brahms 3, Berlioz Symphonie Fantastique. Probably more too. Bummer. It is nice to have the Mozart stuff on cd and the Mahler and Wagner material is top shelf.
  3. Funny - had breakfast next to Hal Linden and a "producer lady" a couple of weeks ago on 57th St. He was trying to convince her they could not "bring back memories" of Goodman with a small group. This discussion lasted for 45 minutes before we left.
  4. very old news.
  5. What is the name for "used to be jazz, now using the style without adding anything - no matter the level of quality"?
  6. Your theory was correct.
  7. It is either Mary or an old barber of mine.
  8. I don't remember the quality of the set. I do remember noticing she was the only non-white on the stage. Seemed creepy to me at the time.
  9. Looks like a decade of listening. Can you give us insights as to why you ignored Carter, Maxwell Davies, Boulez, Feldman, etc?
  10. They are always easy to memorize.
  11. I love this thread. It sometimes infuriates me and other times makes me chuckle. Being there at the time might help.
  12. Boyd Raeburn Experiments In Big Band Jazz - 1945 on Musicraft.
  13. They should offer pdf files of the notes.
  14. Saw her with Kenton once.
  15. This is exactly what he did. I remember him being very upset at a stage crew for moving his drums between sound check and showtime. He had to feel the floor.
  16. Had breakfast with her a few years ago.
  17. One needs to remember the "marketplace/workplace" was the nightclub in 1963. Without the draw of a Miles or Coltrane, they clung to the earlier groups. Where the music was moving was a very different place from where the money was.
  18. The lp looks like this, but mine is stereo.
  19. Nonaah!
  20. Mayhew, interesting dude.
  21. Originally a Byrd disc and reissued as such on cd (without pub info).
