  1. Is she related to Mantan Moreland? Sorry, this is the best Lowe impression I can do.
  2. Son House John Houseman Johnny E
  3. I bought Sony and BMG today.
  4. I did not know that! They were called "discrete quad", SQ and QS.
  5. "On top of their game" is a very generous overstatement (at least as far as Mitchell, Braxton and Smith are concerned), IMO. I will try to catch them live, of course, but my expectations are not too high. Your smug attitude is sad. Please demonstrate the "degradation" of these musicians and explain your "expertise". Don't bother going to the gigs. Please detail your reasons for dismissing their current work.
  6. Clem and Chew lead the pack but most really follow other posts and don't make sense on their own. Context is everything. edit to enter the last sentence.
  7. Nobody mentioned there were at least 3 quad systems on the market in the vinyl days.
  8. These recordings are "treasures" of the BN catalog. "Star Bright" is a masterpiece and the rest aren't far behind. "Asia Minor" is fine.
  9. Prestige 7326, a reissue of Saxophone Colossus, had gold labels.
  10. BTW, answering Mommy's question, I will probably reissue "Saga of the Outlaws" this year. I also hope to reissue Roscoe's "Nonaah" and Wadada's "Spirit Catcher". If you care, keep your fingers crossed for extra material on each.
  11. Don't know the mechanics of the deal but here's a quote from an email, "Dave does receive some royalties from the BYG catalog, although he's an exception as he an agent that aggressively tracks this stuff. It's not much however. " Probably publishing money paid by Byg licencees. Certainly not artist royalties.
  12. Promos be good.
  13. Who's Yanni? Is there a bail fund?
  14. Hmm -- maybe I really AM dumb. Chas is smarter than the rest of us.
  15. That record disappointed when it was issued. Have not listened since. I don't "get" the reputation of this date.
  16. But they were later, and a different JR. He was really proud of all of his recordings and loaned his only copy of The Message to me. It was badly warped at the edge from some heat but I got the message and later found a fresh copy. The Studio 4 record only hints at the playing at that time. A second date was recorded but can't/hasn't been found. This record was by the quartet I heard 6 times a week in those days. I remember "Out of This World" and maybe one of Miles modal tunes. This stuff fades................ For a side note: He loved Perry Como - "He was a barber before he was famous"!
  17. Lotsa' folks seem ready to lick her backside.
  18. If you really care if they do more sessions buy the disc from Mosaic. Let the label and the artist reap the tiny rewards. the cut i heard was beautifully recorded and splendid music. Then buy it from Mosaic.

  20. Nice shot. I've enjoyed all your photo postings. Thanks.
  21. No record had a greater impression than the Columbia lp called "Louis Armstrong and his Hot Five" about 50 years ago. I guess I need to thank (beyond Louis, Johnny, etc) Richard M Jones and George Avakian for the record. The next record to really "work" on me was Monk's "Brilliant Corners".
  22. Please keep the kid away from the art.
  23. Markie Mark Mark Rothko Roscoe Mitchell
  24. Pretty much what Frankie said. Repeated and expanded errors would be the problem.
  25. Why not look for a vibraharp?
