  1. Lewd Onaldson The title is a take-off on the LD + 3 date with the Three Sounds.
  2. The Chronicle set sounds find, does not reproduce the original covers and early pressings had an error in the Monk session. IIRC, The Man I Love reproduces the same take twice. Check that out before purchase.
  3. Not a requiem but I'd add Mozart's Great Mass in C minor to the list of "religious" works. There is always Tristano.
  4. Death watch. Can I get a bargain?
  5. Watching that game now. Forgot how much I dislike Tim McCarver. Might check the schedule for reruns of Three's Company.
  6. I doubt Mr. Hoffman would say the grooves are formed "during the "squashing" of the vinyl to the stamper. No, RTI does not use a different process. My point is he gave an incorrect answer and folks will believe it. To his credit he did point out "part 2" was simplified but I feel he added to the simplification of the processes with his answer. FWIW, the metal part in the video is called a master. It it plated again to produce a mother and the mother is plated again to produce stampers. When more stampers are needed the mother is plated again. When the mother wears out they return to the master and make a new mother. And on and on....'til the master shows wear. No biggie.
  7. Concord must have shelled out some bucks to the Davis estate for the "unissued" material.
  8. I agree but added the other intersection when I remember "nightlife" in that area in the '60s. Aaron Russo ran a club there. Saw Zappa and the Mothers there around 1968.
  9. Argyle is a street on the North side of Chicago (between Lawrence and Foster). This area is called Uptown. I believe the Argyle Lounge was at the intersection of Argyle and Broadway or maybe the intersection of Argyle and Clark. Not too far from the Green Mill and the Aragon Ballroom.
  10. See my mention of "bogus states". Never been to Alaska or Hawaii.
  11. IIRC, North Dakota and Maine are the only states I've missed. I might have hit ND. Not counting the bogus states added when I was in middle school.
  12. Your NW location dictated it.
  13. Nirvana.
  14. Hoffman's rep is built on his mastering skills. Nothing to do with pressing LPs. Most of his LPs are pressed by Kevin Gray. I imagine most of what he knows, or doesn't know, is from watching Gray at work. Kevin Screw his "rep". If he makes parts for lps, I'd expect him to know how they are used if only to make his own work better. I'm a "producer" but I know how ALL this shit works. At least I don't make shit up to provide answers I don't know. Geez!
  15. Correct Clem. I just can't believe a guy like Hoffman (god to some here) doesn't know his shit.
  16. John, say hi to all in the band. Skid and I really enjoyed the band at the start of your tour. I hope "all of youse" enjoyed the experience and keep the message coming.
  17. Mighty Mouse Irving "Mouse" Randolph Mousey Alexander Alexander von Schlippenbach Von Freeman Bud Freeman
  18. Kevin, I read a couple of pages of the Hoffman thread and he completely blows the answer to one of the questions (posts 29 and 30). The stamper is "contoured" to accommodate a raised label area and rim. It takes place before pressing the record. Amazing he didn't know that. If I have time I'll take a couple of pics to show the contouring.
  19. The Jones and Coursil Americas might not be reissued for reasons of disputed ownership.
  20. Yes, a red cover with an alarm clock. Lou's pic was superimposed on it.
  21. Liberty changed colors on Cat Walk and Empyrean Isles because they were cheap - they printed their jackets 4 color process and it was cheaper/easier to use one of the basic colors than convert the original PMS colors. The Liberty "train station" Soul Station was the first issue of this session in stereo, so I had both covers at one time. BTW that cover was a double exposure with a pic of Hank superimposed on the station.
  22. I think the question of "legitimacy" is a dispute between Conrad Rooks and Ornette. Rooks made the record deal with French CBS and Ornette felt he had been paid for a soundtrack but had not been paid for a record.
