I'm back again and lament the lack of input to Paul's query. Please don't say it's been covered. I would welcome some discussion of this monster's output.

FWIW, I ordered this set as soon as it was mentioned in Down Beat (1965 I think) and received it promptly. My good friend Ron Ikan saw mine and ordered his own copy, including a long enthusiastic letter with his check. When his copy arrived he was bummed 'cause he got pressings only, no cover.

Geez, I can' stop. Just want to point out the Storyville "Master of Jazz" disc and the Black Lion "One For My Baby" are really both "Plays Harold Arlen" discs and were recorded at the same sessions. Outstanding stuff.

I simply overlooked the Delmark. It is very fine, if more "mellow" than my very favorites.

The Porter recording is currently available from New World Records. There are actually 2 Gershwin programs and both were recorded in the Fall of '73. The other one is currently available on Swaggie. Brownie, the Solo Art set I mentioned contains the 3 Audiophile lps you recommended.

The Swaggies. The Black Lions. The Chiaroscuros. The Solo Art set. Plays Cole Porter on New World. Master of Jazz on Storyville. And, if you can find it, Plays George Gershwin (last available on a Musidisc cd). It is a shame the 3 "Quintessential" lps on Chiaroscuro haven't been reissued.

Nothing. For these folks the "art" had ended and they found places to work. That opinion gives them the "benefit of the doubt" they had a clue.

The Wallington BN date was overpowered by some "average" charts by Quincy Jones. Nice but never essential.
