  1. Ah, an absolutist.
  2. I guess we can't look forward to any more threads demanding that the Gigolo be reissued. Forgive me for asking, but it's been out on Japanese RVG for over 3 years in fantastic sound, why on earth would anyone moan for 3 years just to avoid paying a few bucks more for the import, especially such a great record? I've been digging this RVG for years now. It sure has been worth the paltry few bucks more for those years of enjoying it! AND I have it as a US issue for many years. I also had the lp, now long gone.
  3. Pete is a creep beyond description. Do that mean anything?
  4. Please don't misunderstand me. I think producers get too little credit for great records BUT I do believe some/many overstep the boundries of "good taste"/"musical quality". Bob Shad should have had his face all over a bunch of Mercury lps. On the other hand, I think he'd have been better served if he'd left his name off some later jobs.
  5. I contacted Mosaic a couple years ago suggesting a cross-label Hutcherson/Land set, with the Hutcherson Blue Notes and the Land Cadet and Mainstream albums. They told me at the time they were actually working on the licensing for just such a set, but I've never heard any more on it. Since then the major labels have become much more proprietry. From now on you can only look for packages from one source. If this wasn't true, the Oliver Nelson UA material would be on the Nelson set. Onward to another Mosaic possibility: Now that Sony and BMG are "connected" MC should have little problem doing a Braxton/Arista set if he really wants to do it.
  6. Laz, can't believe you went for the Feather disc. My opinion of her almost got me banned from AAJ - she's an advertiser you know.
  7. I lost interest quickly. The "producer oriented" sessions from the late '60s onward (by no means limited to DA) give me the heebie jeebies. I (maybe unfairly) consider these projects ego trips by producers thinking they are way smarter than the "leaders".
  8. Woody Shaw In the Beginning.
  9. Saw McCoy's quartet with Gravatt, Herbie Lewis and Byard Lancaster in a bar in Madison, WI in the early '70s. The band was takin' no prisoners! Just behind McCoy, Cecil Taylor was jumping up and down, dancing his heart out. That band should have been recorded live for about a week.
  10. I already did, Chuck, back in my first post on this thread. http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...ndpost&p=454996 Oops.
  11. Do these folks take the same approach to sex?
  12. So you sleep in the garage?
  13. I have all this stuff elsewhere. If you don't have it, get it!
  14. Anyone know where Weizy was during this incident?
  15. Your savings should be spent on Organissimo cds, Organissimo site contributions, Nessa cds and Quartet Out cds. Then you can check out the LOC and other government sites.
  16. I'll drink to that................and welcome back you "clipper", you!
  17. It would be interesting to check out who owns the publishing on the different versions. I'm too lazy to do it now but could EMI own the "other" version?
  18. The Other Side of Benny Golson - OJC lp. Much better than my Riverside original.
  19. My memories are of rare choruses. Mean group of phrases sometimes but few choruses. Lots of reed licking and thoughtful grimaces.
  20. Yes. I have memories of a band (I think of them as the white losers band) with Lin, (sometimes) Bobby Roberts, Carl Leukaufe and Jack Noren. Noren had a joyous way of outshining everyone.
  21. "Chuck as turd in the punchbowl time" - I am not a Tony D fan. Sorry for his personal troubles but................
  22. I have now read Spontoon's link and see I'm repeating myself. Sorry.
  23. I knew Lin a bit. He was a "nut case". He was his own worst enemy. Bob Koester was an angel for him and issued a bunch of cds. Bob will ultimately be responsible for any reputation Linn will have. Linn claimed to have made a date for Riverside (aborted and never completed) with KD on trumpet. I've always wondered if this really happened and if any tapes survive.
  24. I have enjoyed (not an adequate word) for over 45 years. My favorite discs are the Black Lions. These seem to capture what I "love" about his playing. All 4 cds are a great portrait of him as an "artist". I have had more than a few personal experiences with him and think everything posted above applies to him. This life and art ain't easy. Thanks DG.
  25. The answer is no. You takes your chances.
