  1. Saw McCoy's quartet with Gravatt, Herbie Lewis and Byard Lancaster in a bar in Madison, WI in the early '70s. The band was takin' no prisoners! Just behind McCoy, Cecil Taylor was jumping up and down, dancing his heart out. That band should have been recorded live for about a week.
  2. I already did, Chuck, back in my first post on this thread. http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...ndpost&p=454996 Oops.
  3. Do these folks take the same approach to sex?
  4. So you sleep in the garage?
  5. I have all this stuff elsewhere. If you don't have it, get it!
  6. Anyone know where Weizy was during this incident?
  7. Your savings should be spent on Organissimo cds, Organissimo site contributions, Nessa cds and Quartet Out cds. Then you can check out the LOC and other government sites.
  8. I'll drink to that................and welcome back you "clipper", you!
  9. It would be interesting to check out who owns the publishing on the different versions. I'm too lazy to do it now but could EMI own the "other" version?
  10. The Other Side of Benny Golson - OJC lp. Much better than my Riverside original.
  11. My memories are of rare choruses. Mean group of phrases sometimes but few choruses. Lots of reed licking and thoughtful grimaces.
  12. Yes. I have memories of a band (I think of them as the white losers band) with Lin, (sometimes) Bobby Roberts, Carl Leukaufe and Jack Noren. Noren had a joyous way of outshining everyone.
  13. "Chuck as turd in the punchbowl time" - I am not a Tony D fan. Sorry for his personal troubles but................
  14. I have now read Spontoon's link and see I'm repeating myself. Sorry.
  15. I knew Lin a bit. He was a "nut case". He was his own worst enemy. Bob Koester was an angel for him and issued a bunch of cds. Bob will ultimately be responsible for any reputation Linn will have. Linn claimed to have made a date for Riverside (aborted and never completed) with KD on trumpet. I've always wondered if this really happened and if any tapes survive.
  16. I have enjoyed (not an adequate word) for over 45 years. My favorite discs are the Black Lions. These seem to capture what I "love" about his playing. All 4 cds are a great portrait of him as an "artist". I have had more than a few personal experiences with him and think everything posted above applies to him. This life and art ain't easy. Thanks DG.
  17. The answer is no. You takes your chances.
  18. BMG does not require a monthly purchase Since I currently have 22 discs in my queue it certainly ain't a problem for me. $5.99 a month - that's the ticket.
  19. Being able to pay for the CDs AFTER you've received them, as opposed to before you receive them. Since I don't buy as much music as I used to, I can wait until a good sale like the "5.99 & free shipping at 5 discs" deal. Helps keep my budget in check. Since they are charged to my AmEx account, I pay for them later than I paid for my BMG shipments.
  20. Tis possible if you received the correct disc, your message would be the same.
  21. RRK got Von a "scale" date with a "major indie" at the time. Von was happy.
  22. Jelly Roll Morton. I seem to discover him every 10 years or so. Have not been disappointed yet.
  23. We loved it. The kid on the other hand, he walked around with a three foot long face and his headphones on. It appears either we, and, or Manhattan is not cool enough for him. He is wrong on both counts. We've got rain at the moment. Kill the kid and have a life. I hope my post doesn't make this a target of the feds for child abuse. Maybe this should be moved to the political dept.
  24. Yup! All really interesting stuff. Russ Freeman was one of the first "real" musicians I met. The Fischers were issued at a time I was "ready to go there", if you know what I mean. I do have to admit when I met Clare he "set me straight"! In spite of the stupid crap he spewed, I still like these dates a bunch.
  25. First place I encountered his name was as producer for some very nice Hifi records - Harold Land's The Fox and Elmo Hope's Trio.
