  1. Thanks for posting the photos. I and really enjoyed the updates and downdates.
  2. His first name is Mark. B-) And you thought you were so funny.
  3. Let's all chip in and send "che" to Finland. Fins can send money to me to stop this movement.
  4. All these years I've thought of Von being physically larger than me.
  5. I hear ya. I stopped trying to figure it out a long time ago.
  6. Unless you have an huge music collection, I'd say you are missing a bunch. I have 5000+ discs and only have 7 with Wes. Now you can attack.
  7. Jack, I think the mic in the room is better than most radio tapes issued under Boris's various operations. I was not talking music - I have a cdr of the Gerry/Bob/Zoot/Warne set and THIS is wonderful and for me more interesting than most of the issued material.
  8. Speaking of Jazz Magnet, all interested parties should grab the 2 disc solo set by Steve Lacv called Sniips. Great stuff.
  9. I've decided to ignore him 'til he's closer to my age.
  10. Chris, you need to move to the center of the country. The "shit" has been happnin here for years.
  11. We had wonderful, front, center seats thanks to some photographer. John Young and Von must be about the hippest 83 year olds on the planet. Song titles I remember are Lester Leaps In, In a Little Spanish Town and Body And Soul. Von confused me (and the band) by calling Lover Come Back To Me and began one of his patented solo intros, only to wander into a set of changes that had us scratching our heads. I don't know what it wound up being. Special mention should be given for Mike Raynor's fine drumming - he's now on Von's every move. Both John and Von are obviously pacing themselves but it was done so masterfully no one noticed/cared. They are still masters. Personally it was a great time of reunions with old friends and developing new. Special thanks to Uncle Skid for offering the ride, or I would not have made it.
  12. Geez Mark, how can you think this early. I only got about 4 hours sleep. T'was a fantastic time and I will post more later.
  13. I'd have been really impressed if the guy on the right was Sr. Mance.
  14. Great! I'll be the handsome one and Jim will be the 6 ft blond, right?
  15. I might have been lucky - or not. When the whole electric Miles/fusion era was happening I was too deeply involved in other musical matters and missed that whole deal. After the fact, it never interested me and it seemed so "not rock/not jazz" so I've generally ignored it. The same thing happened with the jazz neo-cons. Heard early Wyntnon, etc, thought "nuthin' happnin'" so I moved on. I guess some consider these "blind spots", but I consider it "movin' on".
  16. Uncle Skid and I are coming to the 4:00 show tomorrow. We'll be checking out the JRM before the show. Any interested parties are welcome to join us.
  17. If you haven't opened and loved Worktime, you're not worthy. Forget it.
  18. It sucks pond scum. OK? Is that clear enough?
  19. This set (and Randy himself) is a monster. I consider my experiences working with him a rare pleasure. Damn! Thanks for reminding me.
  20. Back in the '70s (yeah, dark ages) when Bill Dixon was off staff at the U of W in Madison, at an early ensemble "tryout" a bass player was flailing away at his instrument. Dixon stopped him and requested a scale. The guy went "huh" and Bill repeated the request. The guy said "I don't need to do that shit - I played with Cecil Taylor!" (he held the post before Dixon). Professor D slowly walked away and said "No...... you played at the same time as Cecil Taylor".
  21. VERY interesting package. just be warned, these are cdrs.
