  1. Unless I missed it, no mention of Havergal Brian - another really interesting English "nut-case". I currently have 8 of his symphonies - used to have more on vinyl.
  2. Sometimes emotions jump from thread to thread leaving some readers in the dark. I have done this myself.
  3. Couple of Swanson chicken pot pies, Ore-Ida fries, Pepsi and a Crispy Creem.
  4. Nonaah. For the uninitiated, this is pronounced No, Nay, Ah. Accent on the second.
  5. STUPID CHUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The point of the post was "supposed to be" the blues band story. Phillip Wilson was working for Otis Rush and hired a sub so he could work a session with the Roscoe Mitchell Quartet. This was not a gig (no money involved), but a session in the Reynolds Club at the U of C. The sub didn't show and his name is Thurman Barker. Thurman is a very fine drummer and friend, but I have never had the nerve to ask him about this.
  6. After a prompt from Sangrey, I will post about this. I first met Davey (as he was called then) in the mid sixties when some musician friends convinced him to transfer from Northwestern to the University of Iowa. The reason for the transfer was to replace JR Monterose (soon to depart) in the local club band. I later ran into Davey in St. Louis at a Mitchell Quartet concert at Washington University, Graham Chapel. The concert was on Saturday, March 25, 1967. Davie was "freakin'". I know his early influnces were Hank Crawford, Oliver Lake, (most importantly) Julius Hemphill and lastly RM. That is what he told me. For Gene Dinwiddie, I'll rely on my memories.
  7. When I lived there they were called Golden Nuggets - did something change?
  8. My next shipment will be the Fats Waller Centennial set. For some odd reason they listed this as a single cd.
  9. I have this as well. It's about 3/4 of an inch thick.
  10. You shouldn't be allowed to mention this again . . . . . . unless it's in connection with a RELEASE DATE. I think it's about a month away but it ain't in my hands.
  11. It's a type of cigar. None of those pictured qualify.
  12. From my perspective as an old fart, I think it is worth listing the folks you missed. I missed Ayler, Bird, Pres, Bud and that might be it. Yes, I missed the Charlie Johnson band, but let's be serious. I saw Trane (3-6 times) depending on nights spent at the gig.
  13. I have stayed out of this being on the fringes of "semi-pro", but I have master tapes, acetates, dats of masters/acetates, dubs of master tapes - you get the idea. How about a duo of Hershal Evans and Mary Lou Williams? AND the Diz/Bird Uptown stuff. AND I used to have the Coltrane Records release of "Cosmic Music". Got a thousand for that baby.
  14. Donald Clarke is a very good friend of mine and I lived through many of the "trials" he had while working on his book. I'm saying this as a disclaimer, but I really like his book. I can imagine something better but don't expect to see it.
  15. Oh yeah, please point out my "not correct" points. Your "claim" about The Flip is just that.
  16. I will let you stand there. They (BN) rarely give all titles in a release to BMG and I have all the ones you mention with BMG markings 'cept The Flip which I had to buy elsewhere.
  17. Look, you said "it was listed", nothing about your thoughts. The Flip and the Jack Wilson were in different releases IIRC, hence my "thinking clearly".
  18. Loaded, and I didn't need to install drivers. I just didn't hit the right button - my ancient HP LaserJet 5L works fine. Thanks for all the suggestions.
  19. I think you are not thinking clearly or making a bunch of assumptions.
  20. Don't think they (or BMG) ever listed The Flip. What you smokin' boy?
  21. I guess I was fooled by the message I received mentioning the make and model of the printer added.
