  1. Elis, do you have a point of view on this? What is the source of your quote? Just wondering.
  2. FWIW, "the Captain" David Shipp plays on my 2 Von Freeman records. I heard him hundreds of times and deeply regret not making his funeral.
  3. You can do it yourself! Last time we moved we packed/loaded everything and drove two big 19' Ryder trucks as well as two cars.
  4. From a historical perspective the Bohemias get my nod but for pure pleasure I had to go with the May '61 concert from Paris.
  5. I now have all your info - thanks. Hello Dusty Groove!
  6. So friggin' what indeed. Except that when a list of The Strongest Men In The History Of The World is compiled, are you going to leave a cat off who can bench press 2000 lbs? I don't think so. Asteriskacise him as Most Annoying Man On The List, sure. But he makes the list. ← He can be on the list. Just don't ask me for $XXX to read his name on the damn list.
  7. Buddy may/probably have/has as much technique as any drummer in all music history BUT I will take Blakey, Big Sid, Tough, Krupa, Blackwell, Altschul, PJJ, etc for MUSIC. Kinda' like saying he can bench press 2000 lbs. - so friggin' what. edit to add Greer, Jo Jones, Barbarin, Dodds, etc.
  8. I went back to my sources and we seem to have some confusion about the recording date of the Clark/Time date. Jepsen says 3-23-60, Bruyninckx says the same but my 2001 Japanese reissue says January, 1959. Back to the Shad/Mercury/Time world. Really no reason to believe Bob waited for his Mercury employment ended before he started Time. The Roach/Time date was recorded before the Roach Mercury affiliation ended. I suggest multiple contracts were circumvented at the time.
  9. Most likely the title change was to "sell" the song again. He had "sold" the tune to BN under one name and "resold" it to Bob Shad under another. Not at all uncommon.
  10. I got that buckle courtesy of Mr. Roy Eldridge, so I'll wear it 'til I drop.
  11. Don't know the name, it's on Grand Ave at State St.
  12. This Lee Morgan was a "hefty" female and Leon's wife. I met her/them when I worked for Delmark in 1966/67. They ultimately made a deal with Koester for a record but it was issued after I left the label. I will always remember when Leon first called and I answered. The Atlantic "New Tristano" lp was playing in the background. Leon asked who was playing piano and I said Lennie Tristano. He said "I didn't know Lennie was in town".
  13. Where exactly do we stick the RCA plugs?
  14. Jeez, I ask that every night.
  15. Have I posted to this thread yet?
  16. I would too, 'cept he won't remember it at his age.
  17. FOR CRYING OUT LOUD - FIND BLUE MONDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  18. Where the hell is Bobo Box3? Promises were made, money was sent, lifestyles were altered, craps weren't taken, etc. I may never be the same.
  19. JC was first with the sad news. I rarely go there and stumbled on the item! Then posted the news here and quoted the JC item. AAJ later started a thread of its own which quoted my first post here but they did not mention where it came from and they also eliminated the JC mention. http://forums.allaboutjazz.com/showthread.php?t=10521 Found this totally ridiculous! I am not posting at AAJ these days and now intend to stay away from that Forum! (sorry for taking this thread away from its original purpose!) ← One well meaning person posted a picture - it was not the real Lucky T. I sent him a PM. I hope it has been corrected.
  20. Exhibit A ladies and gentlemen.
  21. Yes it would be fine to have Clem back, but there's a whole lot of narcissistic bs maintaining this thread.
  22. Up for play tonight are 2 by Sonny Rollins - There Will Be Another You (Impulse) and In Japan (Victor).
  23. I tried to prod him into performing (and recording) in the early '80s. He was living in Georgia then. He said he was writing music and working on his chops. He seemed to be in very good spirits and seemed mellow. Then all of a sudden he disappeared. He sent me some news clippings from Savannah. I think I'll dig those out today.
