  1. I spent a couple of days on the net researching Paypal and discovered some (all?) the sites bitching about them ultimately led to companies wanting to service my MC/Visa charges. If my research is wrong, I'll welcome the info.
  2. I love checks since no fees are involved, but want to make purchases easy for my customers.
  3. Both the percentage and transaction fees are cheaper with PayPal (as I read the info on their site). The new bank card service has a monthly minimum (payment to them) of $15 and a $.50 fee per transaction charge on top of their percentage. It'd be a "no brainer" to try it but I certainly don't want to sign a 3 year contract. I have about 4 months a year without any transactions and that is $60 down the drain for me.
  4. My label does a modest amount of business via Mastercard and Visa. My bank is changing "service providers" and the proposed fees seem to be more than I wish to pay. Not a huge problem 'cept they want me to sign a 3 year commitment. I'm considering dropping the service and using PayPal instead. I am looking for feedback about this choice. Thanks.
  5. The green cover was available for the first 10 years and was replaced in 1977, mainly to get a better color scan of the painting.
  6. Do a "Miles Davis" search and it shows up. Funny, this morning my queue had been completely emptied but right now all 9 titles are back.
  7. Geez, I'm most attracted to very early and very late Evans. The rest gives me "heebie jeebies".

    Red Nichols

    Oh, that context. B-)

    Red Nichols

I think I'd have to know your context for "incredibly important" and "major and important talent" to agree. They were very fine musicians but these words carry a weight I'm not willing to throw around so carelessly.
  10. Just leave this loser alone. Let him die on the vine.

    Red Nichols

Red seems to be a fine musician in the shadow of others (as judged by his peers). Since he lived longer and "prospered" he is denigrated. There are positive and negative things to say, BUT as I said he was a fine musician and gave a bunch of (even better) guys gigs. No question he prospered by the death of Bix, but that wasn't his fault. The real "crime" is this disagreement ignores Louis and Jabbo and Bubber (not to mention the Henderson section guys). The "unspoken" deal is still looking for "white guys".
  12. Limiting myself to a single disc, I'd pick one of these depending on my whim (?) of the moment. They'd have to be compilations by the strict definition of the word.
  13. If it's really that cheap they are not paying artist royalties (like all Euro PD labels) or music publishing royalties (as they should by EU standards). Nomatter the rules, these boys be stealin'.
  14. Gimme some of what he's smokin' and tell everyone to ignore what I post!
  15. Been trying for a few hours. How 'bout you?
  16. Didn't vote 'cause of my obvious "conflict". If he had been listed, I might have voted for George Mitchell (for historical reasons).
  17. 1. The listings on the EMI issue are in error. No extra music available. Notice they list 3 Proverbes as well, but there are only 2. 2. The Universal Sound disc does predate the current EMI disc but an earlier French EMI disc in the "Jazztime" series was the first cd version. All 3 of these dubbed "Sophie" from vinyl. 3. I assume EMI has lost the tapes. Now to confuse things further, Lester Bowie told me they recorded "a bunch more Proverbes" which were not issued. I mentioned this to Michael Cuscuna years ago and he said a search turned up no surviving tapes.
  18. Well, as they say, you can't polish a curd. So is this the famous curd in the punk bowel?
  19. Whay jazz artists? Do you mean whey jazz artists? They are kinda' cheezy. What do you mean?
  20. It might be the only copy in Chattanooga! If that's the way it's spelled.
  21. Interesting about the editing issue on the current cd. I don't have the Columbia 10" issue, but will check my 12" Columbia (CL 848) against my French cd (COL 469409 2) to see if they match.
  22. Y'ain't gettin' the confirmation from me. I think they just arrived at the point where they had to "reprint" some boxes, did quantity/price calculations and decided the wisest path was a new format for reprintings. They'd have had a firestorm of complaints if they abandoned the metal spines before the series was finished.
