  1. Is this an investment site or is it about money? I'm taking names.
  2. Anyone have a clue as to why Smith would have made that request? I've pulled my lp of this title, will give it a listen and post my impression of the missing tracks. I have not listened to it in a while.
  3. My copy of the "early" reissue says it's mastered by Doug Schwartz in LA and it sounds just fine. Mr Keepnews performed a dandy bit of production for the 2nd cd incarnation by REMOVING the bonus track "Gone With the Wind"!
  4. I just heard it on WGN. They said he was 77.
  5. Before the record industry discovered the saw and the hole punch they marked cutouts with rubber stamps.
  6. Leo is one of my favorite people. He flew into Chicago for Malachi's funeral and we spoke. He is an exceptional human being and musician.
  7. Ammons/Lewis in the early '80s when first issued. Last one was Patton Select. Need to order the Amy and Eldridge sets.
  8. I had no idea you'd met Weezie!
  9. This concert makes up discs 11 and 12 of the Coltrane Tree.
  10. I think the current idolitry of BS is an error. I think ultimately he was a (usefull) negative in the Ellington world. BS was an interesting "colorist" but a "song writer" which I see as a negative influence.
  11. Here is the deal. Music stores pressured the major labels to stop giving ad money to non-music stores (Walmart, Best Buy, etc) who sold cds under cost to draw people into stores to sell TVs, fridges, etc. The labels then put "riders" on their ad money grants limiting the prices that could be advertized. The end result of the "non-music store ads" was to kill music stores. You all watched it happen. This was not the only cause, but it was a big contributor. The big "non-music" stores launched the suit and the "good guys" lost. The residual anti-retailer sentiment has driven public opinion, but music fans lose. Welcome to a market driven economy as espoused by.....................
  12. Well, I see my Marsh cd (at 78:14) ties for 97th place. I also see my lp version of "People In Sorrow" makes the list of 150. Why am I broke?
  13. YES!
  14. I have posted about this before - probably back at the old house. I think the suit was a big mistake and a perversion on justice. If your favorite music store is gone now and you filed for a check, look in the mirror. You be part of the problem. I took a bunch of shit for my position then and expect it now.
  15. This was a GREAT band. I heard them live twice. If you don't have the other recordings they made, get 'em at once. They are the two New World cds and the MPS Black Forest disc. Be patient, the Hat edition will show up again.
  16. I'm in possession of more Konitz Boston broadcasts from this era. Maybe someday an Uptown will show up. B)
  17. Do they comply with the RIAA curve? -eric Certainly not, but neither to I.
  18. I may have an extra set of the 78s.
  19. UNDERSTAND: Dusty, one of my favorite sources. keeps a very small inventory. I can't tell you how many times I've ordered to find the title "out of stock" the next time I logged on.
  20. 'scuse me, let me dip over there.
  21. Yup. Hey, I'm a guy who's lost 50 pounds since March. Now if I can stop smoking.
  22. No. Alamo did. Give me a Pigmeat and a bottle of beer.
  23. The law is broken by the importers. You can't expect all retailers to check the "legality" of every item they buy, but they may be culpable. Some retailers and importers have been responsive to letters from lawyers and it seems Jazz Factory has stopped pressing the Mingus record (at least it no longer shows up on the Blue Moon site). The problem is the cost of getting a law firm to do this is greater than the "potential" money saved. The creeps count on this. On the other hand, I understand it is hard to resist some of these packages. JSP's package of Son House, Furry Lewis, Bukka White, Ishman Bracey and Tommy Johnson keeps calling to me. SHIT!
  24. Maybe it was Pigmeat Markham. Remember the Alamo!
  25. I can "hear" that damn phrase in my head. It must be used in a radio "bump" or something. I can hear the gravely voice!
