  1. Ole Dude And The Fundance Kid is the way the composer spelled it - take it up with Phil Woods.
  2. The Old Dude and the Fundance Kid Arnett's final recording session. Found this one a year ago, sealed for $3. B) You guys are confusing 2 different records: BeeHive 7017 Arnett Cobb "Keep On Pushin'" w/Joe Newman, Al Grey, Junior Mance, George Duvivier and Panama Francis (recorded June 27, 1984) Uptown 2719 Budd Johnson/Phil Woods "The Ole Dude & the Fundance Kid w/ Richard Wyands, George Duvivier and Bill Goodwin (recorded Feb 4, 1984)

    Ran Blake

Just to top off the conversation about Ran, I want to say he's a very warm guy and a great person to engage in musical conversation. I will never forget a long Saturday afternoon in my apartment with Ran, Terry Martin, John Litweiler and Ann. We had a great time talking, playing records, etc. I remember amazing him with a Blue Note record - James P Johnson's "Caprice Rag". Sorry to make it personal, but wanted to say Ran is a very nice guy. Now that I think about it, Larry Kart was probably there too.
  4. Mobley first - it is at least 4 years old and marked for deletion soon.
  5. If you don't have most of the Mobley, or have the Eldridge stuff in any form, buy them. For "music" they are top notch. If you are looking for an investment, I don't care.
  6. Yup, that's how it is/was. 16" radio transcription discs were like this too. In those days the physics of an arm and needle moving inward caused excess friction on the outer groove wall. This was an effort to ease that pressure. Ah, the days of vinyl. My edit changed the word "inner" to "outer".
  7. If you have the chance, take the elevator ride up and look at the view at night. Worth the effort. Otherwise, no poor advice given.
  8. Now you sound like my father. Shit!
  9. It might have "timed out" without them noticing.
  10. Music like this may be very interesting - depends on your point of view. Armstrong was "guilty" of this by emphasizing the solo. Ellington was criticized for "Creole Rhapsody", "Reminiscing in Tempo" and endless other pieces. On the other hand, Keith drove me nuts 'til I stopped listening about 20 years ago. To each his own.
  11. Just reach "down there" and hit the "off" button. It will go away.
  12. It has been out for quite a while but I bet it didn't sell well.
  13. The Powell trios with Ruby are important enough to put up with the programming nonsense. One of the Powell discs includes my favorite recording of Liza (great tune) and Braff plays his ass off. The sound is terrific on the Vanguard reissues and we won't likely get "corrected" versions. Buy 'em all and make your own cdrs.
  14. Isn't "overly redundent"....................(and misspelled)?
  15. I suggest working for JRM/Delmark for a year, start your own label and live the rest of your life with the consequences.
  16. You don't think some seasoned collectors want better masterings of "classic recordings"? The RVG is also slipping in some sides normally relegated to the Conn series, and they are cheaper.
  17. Not sure of the contents but there is a Unique single cd of the Stuttgart concert. In the US it is listed on the City Hall website. The Enja cds are both expanded versions of the lps.
  18. We get a bunch of RVG remasters instead.
  19. I've been told by "experts" if you leave a gallon of tap water "open to the elements" for an hour the chlorine evaporates. No telling what the chlorine does to the enviroment, but tap water should be ok. If you really want to filter your water, you need a "reverse osmosis" system.
  20. Source is a paper in Baltimore - too close to DC to be reliable! Just read Weezie's posts.
  21. At one time I had all the lps. From memory, Carnival Sketches is the least desirable. Look for the vinyl and buy them in order; Breakthrough, Debut in Blues, Carnival Sketches. I heard him a few times in Chicago. He played with an organ trio.
  22. I think the first jazz lp I bought was Louis's Hot 5 on Columbia. First lp was Fats Domino.
  23. Though maddeningly programmed, the Vanguard Mel Powell discs contain prime Braff.
