  1. I can't wait for this. That Devilin' Tune had so many revelations for me, especially the first volume.
  2. That was the original mono mix of River Deep, Mountain High that was released as a 45. My hip father bought a copy of that 45 when it first came out and it blew my mind. The mix on the later LP, a primitive early stereo experiment that put Tiny much lower in the mix, always sucked compared to the 45. Unfortunately, most CD reissues have used the LP version. a-HA! I'ver only once heard the Philles 45 version, and it is as you say - and then some! And I've told everybody since that unless you've heard the 45, you haven't hear "River Deep, Mountain High". This video would of course be an edited version, right, due to the length? I gotta start hunting eBay for a Philles 45.... Am I crapping on this thread by saying I find Tina's vocals and mannerisms way too histrionic? It's all release and no tension.
  3. Yeah, but do you get all those porno covers in high quality?
  4. I was at that show, and it was indeed gripping.
  5. These may be worth a thread of their own in the Discography forum. Just a suggestion.
  6. I have the two-disc one, forget what it's called at the moment, but it's great!
  7. I've never gotten into Andrew Hill, period. But then, I haven't listened to much beyond Point Of Departure. Still, I'm glad to have seen him solo live shortly before his death.
  8. Mark E Smith of the Fall was touting the Monks back in the 80s, and covered two of their songs on "Extricate" (1989) but they remained largely unheard until a mid-90s CD reissue on Henry Rollins' short-lived Infinite Zero label--that's when I was finally able to hear them. Infinite Zero was rad--they also issued on CD for the first time very early Trouble Funk recordings, the middle two Gang of Four albums, and Devo.
  9. An Die Musik in Baltimore doesn't have this on their online schedule...
  10. I have an update. I took things into my own hands and called the 888 toll-free number, and the man who answered the phone (Mark Fisher?) told me that a May/June issue was coming by the end of May, and that they would get back on schedule after that. I was more surprised that someone answered the phone--I was certain the magazine was defunct. We'll wait and see what happens. I'm not optimistic in this economy.
  11. And available in the US too! Yeehaw! And I see the phantom two-starrer has gotten to them, as well.
  12. And available in the US too! Yeehaw!
  13. That's pretty much how I feel, too. Gotta dig into the 1988 box set I got last year on Ebay.
  14. I like to think of Dutch as just comically misspelled English. When I was in Amsterdam I was amused to see a newspaper called "De Niews".
  15. Uhh, again, wazzup with Coda? There has been no issue since November 2008 (although a December issue is shown on the website as "forthcoming"). Nate? (You still around?)
  16. Probably the reason they gotta move. Jazz thrives on cheap rent.
  17. groovy lookin' guitars, dig the Fender headstocks on an acoustic. This record has a young Glenn Close on it, for real!
  18. Already is, on the AEC's own label. Check Dusty Groove.
  19. Is there a jazz version of "Am I dead or not.com"?
  20. Peter Evans was the name that grabbed me. I like his solo "More and More" and the Trio record on Firehouse 12.
  21. It's one of the first jazz records I ever heard. That was my reaction too. One of the records that changed my life.
  22. I have good dreams about finding Mosaics (that don't exist in the real world) second-hand for a good price in a grubby record shop, like a "Complete mid-70s Evan Parker" collection.
