  1. hey it's Monday, give me a break. allright - I mean to say that they were storing it on the tracks at the Columbus Circle subway station.
  2. well, nothing much good (including myself) ever came out of Binghamton.
  3. well, they kept the last batch in the World Trade Center - on the roof -
  4. well, it's all part of our continuing effort to slow Jim's musical career - at least that's the reason that I'm here -
  5. he was supposedly extremely nearsighted, as I recall.
  6. well, at our Knitting Factory concert we had Doc Cheatham and David Murray -
  7. with a major new CD project on the horizon (coming in 2-3 months, 3 cd set of my own blues stuff with Ribot/Rudd/Shipp) I have decided to set up my own little promotional wing; I just cannot afford to have anyone else do it for me. I have a good and substatial list of current and active critics but am discovering that it is difficult to find actual emails and other contact info, even on the internet (queries sent to general mailboxes go unanswered more often than not). I'm going to be doing a bit of Facebook searching, but I was also wondering if anyone out there in Jazz-ville has a decent or comprehensive emal list of jazz crtics of all media that they might be willing to share or even sell. also, if you happen to be a critic, let me know, with your contact info, and I will put you on the list.
  8. my first look at the title of this in Larry's post, as "The Flamboyan Queens" shook me a little bit - add a "t" to the club name and you'll see what I mean - I though it was one of those Female Impersonator clubs - on KD, I've always though that his work on the Bird broadcasts, if not completely mature, was still unique and individual, and indicated a different kind of lyricism than the kind Miles was after. I find KD, on those braodcasts, to be instantly identifiable. and in the one conversation I had with Chet Baker, KD was the ONLY trumpet player that he, interestingly enough, cited as an influence.
  9. wow, I assumed he died a while ago.
  10. hey Jim, you know who else lives up there? IIRC, the surviving daughter of one of the Boswell sisters; can't remember her name but about 15 years ago she contacted me when she was trying to set up a Boswells museum (might been Vette's kid?). So you can make this into a musical/sports tour. You can't go wrong. just found it: Boswell Museum P.O. Box 159 Springfield Center, NY 13468 607-264-3321 I could be wrong but I think it's in the vicinity.
  11. Miles was a creep, who seemed to prey sexually on insecure female singers (names provided privately upon request). Brilliant guy, in spite of this, whose interviews are full of little gems of observation, even while revealing his schmuck-dom. The one time I saw him up close (in the lobby of the Fillmore East, between sets on oen of the nights they recorded the live album) he was dressed like a Persian rug.
  12. it worked for me fine, at least on some of the stuff I was connected with, like this Percy France CD - funny thing is that I'd forgotten that this cover photo was taken of Percy playing at my wedding (9/12/82) - and the hidden bassist is none other than Aaron Bell, who was attedning with a friend of mine -
  13. is Nate still around here? Haven't seen him post in years -
  14. it's been so many years that I have no idea except to say it was one of the most enjoyable things I ever did - and believe it or not, IIRC, Paul Bley lives not-to-far from it (Cherry Valley).
  15. it was truly the birth of country music - looking forward to this; 2 CDs came out at one time by the Country Music Foundation, and then BMG put out a single CD a few years ago.
  16. apparently Liebman studied with Tristano when Liebman was 17 - and lived to tell about it.
  17. well, nobody from here was there (except Elissa) but I will nominate our September 25 concert at 45 Bleecker with Rudd/Ray Anderson/Sandke/Lewis Porter/Darius Jones/Lowe. We got all those other guys beat, hands down.
  18. it ain't just Tristano, though that's quite hilarious (I remember Dick Katz saying that somebody was gonna release a recording of "Bird coughing.") on the other hand, for the little time I spend in Tristano's presence, I was ready to take the cool-aid, just so he would accept me. He had that effect (though jeez, I was only, like, 22) -
  19. I actually think there's a lot of good new stuff out there, excellent musicians playing creative music (though I have to admit that they rarely hold my attention for the length of the CD; this, however, may be just an age issue, as at 56.7 I have listened to just too much already and I tend to impatiently just want to get on with my own boring life) -
  20. but than, I am you and you are me and we are all together now
  21. I see nothing and everything
  22. "AND how did he spill it down his pants" ever heard of a funnel?
