I hadn't seen this thread before, and last night I heard on the Philly jazz station what sounded like live Wes in decent sound (including his distinctive laugh while he plays in what seems to be a fun, relaxed atmosphere), but it was a recording that I'd never heard before. Sure enough, the announcer confirmed that it was, indeed, previously unreleased live Wes on this new CD. That remark is rather common on many amazon listings. Really? I don't think I've ever seen it for music on Amazon US. But maybe I don't often search for stuff that's likely to be backordered. I tend to think Stefan isn't far off the mark - could these be manufactured on demand? Amazon generally includes a statement that a product is a CD-R, if that's what it is. I've seen the extra-1-to-2-days statement on Amazon before, but more on Amazon.co.uk. My impression has always been that it's because the product is sourced from a supplier other than Amazon's own warehouses.

I've certainly never heard of him, and I read a fair bit about orchestras around the globe. He may well grow into that distinction. Of course, given the general lack of interest in classical music now, there may not be any more conductors known to the general public or even to the subset of music lovers. I'd actually heard of him before he was considered/announced for the Philadelphia position, and I'm certainly no orchestra expert. He's generally considered to be one of the hottest rising stars of this younger generation of conductors. He's also quite a contrast to the last two Music Directors in Philly, Christoph Eschenbach and Wolfgang Sawallisch, in terms of age and place in his career, and in terms of personality! His appointment harkens back more to the earlier appointments of (at the time) younger men Riccardo Muti, Eugene Ormandy, and Leopold Stokowski as Music Director of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Current budget crises notwithstanding, the fervent hope is that he'll usher in a new era for the Orchestra comparable to those during the tenures of those 3 fellas.

Thanks much for the link. That's a great price (best I've seen). I'm really looking forward to enjoying this set. I have his early "Quartets" album and a few of his Verve recordings (West Coast Jazz, The Steamer, & Jazz Giants '58) and I enjoy those very much so I'm sure I'll dig the music. Thanks for reminding me! Just ordered one for myself. Looks like it wiped out their listing again, but they'll probably keep relisting it at this price as stock allows (at least for a while longer).

After hearing the stories, I'll just bide my time. It sounds like the seller is legit. It may take as long as 60 or so days. As I posted in the thread about problems with UK deliveries, I recently received a UK order almost two months after it was shipped (or "dispatched," as they say) in early December. In the interim, the same seller had shipped and I had recevied a replacement order, all within the span of 2-3 weeks. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to the length of these delays.

I remember it very well! I specifically remember my father commenting that the crazy teenage girls couldn't possibly hear anything because they were screaming so loudly. I also remember thinking--at the ripe old age of 7--that their hair was way too long, and wondering why somebody hadn't cut it:

I've had several orders from UK sellers arrive in wildly varying times over the past couple of months. Some within a week or two, and one that just arrived almost 2 months after it was shipped! After over a month of waiting for that one, I notified the seller (MDT) that I hadn't received it, and they promptly sent out another copy. I received the reshipment within less than 2 weeks, and then the original shipment showed up a week or so after that! They told me to just keep both copies.
