  1. Don't have it at hand to check, but did you look at the back of the booklet (producer's note or something like that?) - usually they're quite accurate to note such mistakes, same as on other Blue Note discs, where there are notes about "phasing cymbals" etc... The Mobley booklet says nothing about any problems/errors.
  2. Hip-O tracklisting and description
  3. So what I was told is correct: maximum compression/no dynamics left/loud/boosted higher frequencies. No thanks, I'll stick with my early Japanese issue and the Virgin remaster from the 1990s. Not so much compressed but heavily e.q'd. Everything is dry but a little too upfront. Improvement over the original CBS CD from the 80's but not the original US vinyl. Never heard the 94 Virgin so I can't compare it to that. Not as good as last years Beatles remasters thats for sure. If it's one-dimensional, without depth and, as others have told me, without dynamics, there must be a lot of added compression. Anyway, as I said I'll pass.

  5. Haven't heard this new set yet, but I've been told that the remastering is very "modern": loud, with squashed dynamics. If that's correct, I'm not going to buy it.
  6. I'm a big Mobley fan, but I don't have the box anymore. I have all the material in the box on "Blue Note Works" TOCJs, with the exception of a couple of alternates, and sold the box. I also have a non-numbered copy of the Mosaic booklet.
  7. Should be. Of course, if Hans hears back from Scott, we'll have the definitive answer. Haven't heard from him (yet).
  8. Jazz Times obit, posted by Kevin over on the Hoffman site.
  9. Kevin posted over on the Hoffman forum that Hank Jones passed away. Very sad news. Loved his music. I edited the thread title.
  10. Using the mono button won't undo the bad effects of fake stereo.
  11. As far as I know this date has never been issued on CD.
  12. Member Hot Ptah posted a thread about this project on the much-maligned Hoffman forum. It should help sales a bit.
  13. Prestige 7249 was the "electronically rechanneled for stereo" (= fake stereo) reissue of Prestige 7074. This session was recorded in mono and thus never issued in "true" stereo. The 7249 reissue dates from the early 1960s - I think it was 1962.
  14. Thanks, but I don't download music and certainly not stuff in MP3 quality.
  15. Thanks, but Half.com is "U.S.-only" and I'm in the Netherlands, and you don't seriously think I'm gonna spend that kind of money, do you??
  16. I am looking for the Rahsaan: The Complete Roland Kirk Mercury Recordings box in excellent or better condition, so if you're selling one or know where I can get one, please PM me. It should be complete, with 10 CDs and 1 bonus disc. PayPal is my only payment option.
  17. Missed the Kirk box again...
  18. It appears that either this set will include a lot of un-issued material, or there will be more recordings included than the ones that Hans lists (perhaps including the Impulse! sessions?). I am hoping for the former. The set will include Jamal's Argo/Chess sessions only, no Impulse! dates. As mentioned on this Mosaic page, there'll be 23 unissued sides.
  19. There was no digital noise reduction when the LPs were issued in the 1970s (I think it was 1977). Sonic Solutions' NoNOISE technology, which was used on the CD reissues, was first introduced in 1987.
  20. Another year? In that case I can hardly believe the numbering is sequential, with mixedupfiles' set being in the high 7400s and the total number being 7500. Hans, since you seem to be in touch with Scott on a regular basis, could you ask him about this? Up until recently, at least, the big boxes were definitely numbered in the sequence in which they were shipped--based on Mosaic's email to Brad, and also based on the numbers people have posted here for soon-to-be OOP sets that they just purchased. Perhaps this has changed? Or perhaps mixedupfiles' Mobley number is, well, mixed up? Given the recent outsourcing of shipping operations, who knows? I've e-mailed Scott about this.

  22. I think he meant that the 10" date could have been added to the Hank Mobley and His All Stars CD pictured above.
  23. Correct, though it's not necessarily one dollar more; the difference increases when the bidding goes higher.
  24. The link in your post didn't work. Please re-post it. (edit) Is this the book you're referring to: Amazon link?
