  1. Me too, just now. I paid dearly for it, but it's worth it! Now onto Shank/Cooper, Slack, Richards, Pepper and Dexter! Good luck with those. Most of them are now hard to find and pretty expensive. I am still looking for the Slack, but I'm not prepared to pay big bucks for it.
  2. I wouldn't be surprised if they just repackaged the original CDs. That's my assumption too, even though the Cam Jazz website says "patiently integrally remastered paying strict attention to the sound quality". I hadn't seen that.
  3. I wouldn't be surprised if they just repackaged the original CDs. That might cause a few copyright problems.
  4. What did he do? I was wondering about that too.
  5. I can't get past the monotony of her singing. My problem, I know
  6. I'm not a Julie London fan and I sold the few albums I had a long time ago, but if I remember correctly Julie Is Her Name and Julie at Home are small-group dates without strings. No guarantee, though
  7. That is a lot of Julie London...
  8. Well, at least we agree that Social Call is a good album
  9. Yes, I know what Horace's phrase "carpe diem" means. I have 6 long years of Latin (including reading Horace) behind me, back in the 1960s. I don't see what "carpe diem" ("enjoy the day") has got to do with recommending an album, though. If you read Horace you'd know the context of the quotation - essentially he says that one should enjoy the present without worrying about the future. Thus the original poster should buy the album without worrying whether they will dislike it. It's an encouragement. Yes, I know the context of the quotation, but I think it's a bit far-fetched to use it as an encouragement to get something. Good for you.
  10. Not only in yours, it'd be welcome here too To each their own
  11. A very nice album. Recommended. Yes, I know what Horace's phrase "carpe diem" means. I have 6 long years of Latin (including reading Horace) behind me, back in the 1960s. I don't see what "carpe diem" ("enjoy the day") has got to do with recommending an album, though.
  12. compared to what? Junk in its own right
  13. I'd have loved a huge Eddie Harris set, too! Probably 15ish? Also Roland Kirk, of course! Would have been a great companion to the Mercury box, but having all the 32Jazz discs and some more on Rhino is cool as well! Unlike Trane/Mingus/Ornette, not everything that the MJQ did for Atlantic can be considered "essential", so a box for just the earlier stuff would have been OK by me. Same is true for Eddie Harris of course, he did a lot of junk on Atlantic in the 70's. Not everything Joel Dorn touched in the 70's turned into musical gold, though I admired him in a lot of ways. Anything Rahsaan did is worth hearing. I'm sure sales projections were a consideration. We could go on and on - Mose Allison, Yusef Lateef, Les McCann, no doubt others I'm not thinking of. If they were going to draw a line, they drew it in a sensible place. I agree, not everyone who recorded for Atlantic made consistently good to great music that would justify the box treatment. In my opinion most of the stuff Eddie Harris recorded for the label was indeed junk - and that's putting it mildly...
  14. Correct, and those Universal Euro Mosaics were not hand-numbered.
  15. I have merged the two threads about this topic.
  16. According to AMG he was born in 1921, so he was either 88 or 89. Chuck, Any chance the LP will be reissued on CD? I was planning a late fall issue but it feels a little creepy now. I will see how I feel about it later. A reissue could be seen as a tribute.

  18. Great music indeed. What didn't you like about the Bluebird? I haven't listened to it in ages.
  19. I don't know which European version you're referring to, but I had a French remaster that came out years ago and I didn't like the sound, to my ears it was too "pumped up" and harsh. I prefer the Bluebird; sorry to hear it's OOP and expensive now.
  20. Interesting. I'm looking forward to hearing this set - if it's not a joke. Didn't have the Revelation vinyl.
  21. Amazon U.K. link
  22. Allen's right. I've removed the lyrics.
