Thanks. I stand corrected; the info I got that all UCCI CDs were 24-bit remastered is clearly not correct.
-
Strange. All my UCCI CDs are 24-bit remastered, not 20-bit K2, and my Japanese contacts assured me the whole UCCI-9xxx series is 24-bit remastered. What are the catalogue numbers of your discs?
-
There were no UCCI 20-bit K2 remasters; those K2s had MVCJ and MVCZ prefixes and were exclusively issued by Victor. The UCCI discs were all 24-bit remasters and they were issued by Universal.
-
The Japanese Impulse! UCCI-9xxx CDs are not new, they were issued years ago. They're not the same as the 20-bit K2 MVCJ remasters that were issued in the 1990s; the UCCI discs are 24-bit remastered and opinions on their sound vary. To my ears they sound harsh, as if the higher frequencies have been boosted, and a tad loud; I find them fatiguing. Others here like them. The MVCJ and MVCZ and earlier MVCI series were released by Victor Japan, the UCCI series by Universal Japan.

I have tried this already but all I get is the following options: My Profile; My Settings; Messenger; Manage Friends and Manage Ignored Users. Sorry, I meant: click on "messenger".
-
Click on your name at the top right-hand corner and a drop-down menu will appear, then click on "conversations".

Yeah, Amsterdam is not what it used to be, it's a cold, hard place now with all those loud Americans "doing" the place in an hour and its red light district swarming with hard-drinking English soccer fans...

Yes, let's just lock everything up
J.A.W. replied to connoisseur series500's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
All fine, Jim. But my problem is that one of your moderators has closed...what? how many threads now within a short time span? I can count the Art Pepper, the one started by Jazzmoose, and two from Lowe (ok, Allen is a bit of a provacateur) Let's just say that the trend is rather disturbing. That's all. No need to get too worked up on your end either, and I know you don't have the time to worry about this board, but if moderators start routinely shutting down threads, perhaps someone has to monitor the monitor. Might be worthwhile to see if this trend continues. I think this suggestion is reasonable enough. I already explained earlier in this thread why I locked the Pepper sale thread (posts 4 and 6) and the thread that Jazzmoose started (post 13). -

Yes, I know the rules etc. and I know this has been, in the past, an extremely relaxed forum. Putting aside the dustup over one poster's umbrage, locking Jazzmoose's thread strikes me as excessive and also "making a mountain out of a molehill." I know--I don't like it, I can take my ball somewhere else and play, etc. etc. That's not what I'm saying here, simply that locking threads because of one board member seems heavy-handed and unnecessary to me, and a departure from past board practice. That thread turned out to be about how a topic had been moderated. As Jim said, that's now been dealt with and that's why the thread was locked; let's move on. It is not my intention to introduce a heavy-handed moderation here, on the contrary; besides, Jim wouldn't allow it -

It's more than that, Weizy. I didn't like the way the Art Pepper Mosaic Select thread was so unceremoniously shut down. I thought that although there was some pique displayed on both sides of the argument, there was also some cogent discussion going on. I'm actually more pissed about that quick and capricious moderation than I am on what happened to Allen. The Art Pepper Mosaic Select sale thread was locked because the seller wanted to close the sale. He requested that you close it? He wanted the sale closed and that's why the thread was locked. -

Already being discussed in this existing thread. Please continue posting there.

No need to agonize over it, it's gone... ..or did you pull the trigger after all?

Ahmad Jamal and Carter/Bradford Mosaics can be pre-ordered
J.A.W. replied to J.A.W.'s topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I don't know if the list is still up-to-date, but I listed the albums that will be included in the box in this post. -

All the best, Volkher, and hang in there! -
Congratulations! You've searched long enough

This seller (not me) is offering several OOP Selects on eBay, some for reasonable "Buy It Now"-prices.
-
I hope it'll last that long

That reminded me of some of those Playboy jazz polls- Paul McCartney on bass, Edgar Winter on sax, Chuck Mangione on trumpet, etc. Don't forget Eric Clapton on guitar There's a thread over on the Hoffman forum about Clapton playing "jazz" - at least according to some bright minds over there
-
Same here. To my ears the Mosaic is by far the best way to hear this music.
-
I agree, and I'd also have the Mosaic if I didn't have the Japanese "Blue Note Works" TOCJs of all the sessions.
-
Mosaic only released one Hank Mobley set, in 1998, and that's the one currently available on their site. The LP version sold out years ago, but the CD set seems to be a very poor seller.

J.A.W. replied to Adam's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I posted details of the upcoming Carter/Bradford Select (and also of the upcoming Ahmad Jamal set) here. -
