  1. I tried to access the board several times today and got various error messages. Did anyone else have this problem?
  2. Thanks Flurin. This is really sad news. I love his 1950s dates.
  3. Has this news been confirmed yet?
  4. http://www.wsmv.com/story/24226033/country-star-ray-price-dies-at-87 He made some great honky-tonk recordings in the 1950s.
  5. Not my cup of tea.
  6. Thanks. I did a search with "Bihari", but got no results. As far as I'm concerned this thread can be locked.
  7. I don't know if this has been posted before; I did a search, but didn't find anything. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/12/12/arts/music/joe-bihari-who-put-early-rb-on-record-dies-at-88.html?nl=todaysheadlines&emc=edit_th_20131212&_r=0

  10. Not that old cliché again... Not a cliche for me.YMMV. OK. I guess too many Americans have asked me if we're all still wearing wooden shoes. It's a persistent fairytale. Seriously? Seriously.

  13. And the great 1959, 1961 and 1963-1965 recordings with Paul Desmond on Warner Bros. and RCA, and his Pacific Jazz dates, Jazz Guitar and Good Friday Blues - The Modest Jazz Trio. Forgot Desmond. Have edited post. He not only recorded with Desmond in the period you mentioned, but also after 1962. I know. I've got the discs!

  16. Very sorry to hear this. A great musician.
  17. I don't intend to re-post my list, so that thread can be deleted as far as I'm concerned. It's good stuff, just didn't seem to need to be pinned. If you want it pinned, it's OK by me. That's not the point. My Blues/R&B list the thread was about was removed for several reasons, so there no longer was a topic; that's why I said it could be deleted.
  18. Yanow was here for a minute and I think he felt insulted when I said he was a "reliable generalist". I wish he'd stayed around. He has interesting things to say about recordings for multiple decades. I think that description is quite accurate and not at all demeaning. In fact, it's a nice compliment. Agreed.

  20. It's been released by a European public-domain label. It looks like a bootleg; discussion on the Hoffman board: http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/john-coltrane-traneing-in-boxed-set-december-2013.336329/
  21. In another thread member erwbol wasn't so enthusiastic about the sound on these Atlantic reissues - and that's putting it mildly.
  22. If I remember correctly Mosaic didn't do a Keynote box because of licensing problems - something that doesn't bother Fresh Sound Absolutely.....and I wonder where Fresh Sound will have sourced their music and what the quality will be like. If it's like most of their releases it will be a mixture of lossless, mp3 and needle drops. I was wondering about that too.
