  1. I don't intend to re-post my list, so that thread can be deleted as far as I'm concerned.
  2. It's been released by a European public-domain label. It looks like a bootleg; discussion on the Hoffman board: http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/john-coltrane-traneing-in-boxed-set-december-2013.336329/
  3. In another thread member erwbol wasn't so enthusiastic about the sound on these Atlantic reissues - and that's putting it mildly.
  4. If I remember correctly Mosaic didn't do a Keynote box because of licensing problems - something that doesn't bother Fresh Sound Absolutely.....and I wonder where Fresh Sound will have sourced their music and what the quality will be like. If it's like most of their releases it will be a mixture of lossless, mp3 and needle drops. I was wondering about that too.

  6. Here's the draw:
  7. Sorry to hear this. Great musician.
  8. The mouse that roared! No need to insult people, freelancer.
  9. Yes, that is possible. I don't know whether it is due to not speaking a shared language or dialect though, but who knows? I still believe what I said was correct, even when something might be official, it needn't be looked at that way in the general opinion. I didn't even stated that it was that. I just said "not every one..." and that was just what it was. This said however, I am really sorry if I did offend someone with my comment since I didn't mean it in any negative way; but if it was felt as such I do want to apologize for that. Friesland is a beautiful part of the Netherlands. My family has lived there for some time too, so I know some. Well, Frisian is a language because it has a grammar and a syntax, not because I say so. But what I was referring to was your post about the Netherlands having been a kingdom for 200 years this year, which is not quite correct - see my post #76 earlier in this thread. I find it annoying when people post incorrect information; the internet is full of it. My post wasn't aimed at you personally.
  10. Of all the labels mentioned the only one that really "went under" was Riverside, not long after co-founder Bill Grauer died in December 1963.
  11. As was mentioned before, the material is owned by the Sun Entertainment Corporation. Is Sun Entertainment Corp still owned by Shelby Singleton? MG Singleton died in 2009. http://www.sunrecords.com/news/shelby-singleton-jr

  13. The only thing I have problems with is information that is not quite correct (see my post #76), no matter who posted it.
  14. Chuck is right. Many EU public-domain releases are distributed by U.S. companies (and carried by stores like Amazon) although the releases are not legit in the United States.
  15. Charly is known for both legit and illegit reissues. No idea if this one is legit.
  16. Really? That's nice. Not eveyone would call it a language, more a dialect. That's not correct. It's 'Fries' for the Frisian language and Westfries for the Dutch dialect. Westfries is spoken in the northern part of the province of North Holland, which was inhabited by Frisians in the early Middle Ages, before the great floods separated what is now North Holland from Friesland. Westfries is indeed a dialect, while Frisian (Fries) is a language - see my earlier post about that. Right. But my answer was about that 'dialect'.... I know, my post was just meant as an addition to what you said, not a correction People who claim that Frisian is a mere dialect have got it wrong.
  17. Really? That's nice. Not eveyone would call it a language, more a dialect. That's not correct. It's 'Fries' for the Frisian language and Westfries for the Dutch dialect. 18. i thought so! what i've read in english refers to them as languages, but i was certain they would be more dialects. i also find these things fun to learn and know about. for instance, i'm positive that each region and province has its own characteristics that differ - some greatly - and some subtly. and what a more neglected place to start than the netherlands! Frisian is officially recognised as a language, with its own grammar etc.
  19. Yep. Part of what is now the Netherlands - roughly the current country without the province of Limburg and part of Brabant - was a republic from the Declaration of Independence ("Plakkaat van Verlatinghe") in 1581 until 1806. British historian Jonathan I. Israel wrote a brilliant book about it: The Dutch Republic - Its Rise, Greatness, and Fall 1477-1806 (1995, Oxford University Press).
  20. That's not quite correct. The Netherlands became a kingdom in 1806, with Napoléon's brother Louis Napoléon Bonaparte as king. In 1810 the country was annexed by Napoléon and became part of the French empire. After Napoléon's first defeat in 1813 the Netherlands became a principality, not a kingdom (again) - that didn't happen until 1815 when Willem I became king, so all these celebrations are either too late or premature, depending on the way you look at it.
  21. Carmen Leggio was born in the same year as Getz (1927) and died 18 years after Getz (2009).
  22. I wasn't referring to your comment.
  23. Klemperer recorded the 7th twice with the Philharmonia Orchestra, in 1955 and 1960 (both stereo), and once with the New Philharmonia Orchestra, in 1968. The 1955 performance is a favourite of mine.
