Blakey Mosaic set FS, only $500...

That's a fair price. Rare nothingness is expensive these days. -

Hmm, I got mine a few months ago for $210 and recently sold it for $220 on eBay (badly needed the money); I haven't seen this set go much higher these last few months. -
Here's an interesting post by "Montgomery Cleft" on a blues bulletin board about the quality and legality of several blues and jazz reissue labels, such as JSP.

Happy birthday!

Of course Mosaic deserves our business, no doubt about that, and I'm willing to pay a few extra bucks to get the real thing; that's not my point - I was merely poiting out that in this case the Mosaic route is not the cheapest way to go; but it surely is the most sympathetic way!

Ahhh... This brings back a few great memories...

Have a great birthday my friend, and a few of those excellent beverages!

The board was down again today until a few minutes ago. I hope the problem's solved...

I'm afraid they go back to their older master tapes and do not make new transfers from the orgininal tapes. The French BMG branch issued its Rollins box independently from the US box, it seems to me. I avoided the French reissue of The Bridge because it sounded just like the box set issue, whereas the new US Bluebird first editions CD sounds magnificent!!! But I had to order that from a US mail order shop, they do not distribute it in Europe 'cause they wanna sell their own pressing! I compared the Classic Records gold disc, the French 24-bit remastered version, the Japanese 24-bit remastered reissue and the recent Bluebird first editions reissue of The Bridge, and to my ears the sound of the Japanese reissue was the most detailed, transparent and musical of them all, with the recent Bluebird a close second. The Classic CD sounded muffled and dated, and I didn't like the sound of the French reissue at all; I sold the Classic and French CDs and kept the other two.

Good to see a recommendation of a bit more challenging music than usual; doesn't happen too often

Sent you a PM.

I wasn't saying Mosaic sets are cheaper in Europe, I was just comparing the price Amazon Germany are charging for the non-U.S. Verve CJB set to the price of the Mosaic CJB set; they're about the same, so it'll be cheaper for Europeans to buy the Verve set from Amazon Germany, taking shipping cost and taxes into account.
-
...When you purchase the set directly from Mosaic
-
Reinier, Amazon Germany's price for the set is €59.99 (including German tax), or $69 at today's exchange rate (€1 = $1.15 / $1 = €0.87), plus shipping, which is quite moderate if you're in Europe and even free if you're in Germany, Austria, Switzerland or Luxembourg; Mosaic's price is $68 plus shipping, which is sky high if you're in Europe (at least air mail shipping is).

Happy birthday!

Does anyone know if the European Verve version of the box includes the Mosaic booklet?

Ole Coltrane, looking for Japanese 20-bit CD
J.A.W. replied to riverrat's topic in Offering and Looking For...
I have several Japanese 20-bit K2 remastered EastWest Atlantic Coltrane CDs, and they're the best versions I've heard - they make these recordings a little more bearable than usual (I'm talking about the sound quality, not the music!). I had the MFSL CD of Giant Steps but sold it; it sounded dull compared to the Japanese version. -

The Japanese release has been out of print for years and it's extremely hard to find. Good luck! -
Any comments on the sound quality of the hybrid SACDs that Fantasy released in October 2003?
-
I'd really like to see that... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Great job, Jim!

It IS still in print...

The Blue Note 10" LP Hank Mobley Quartet (Blue Note 5066) was NEVER released as a "Blue Note Works" TOCJ CD. Toshiba released it in August 1990 as a pretty expensive 2,800 yen "CJ" CD with 8 tracks (CJ28-5128): Hank's Prank Hank's Prank (alternate take) My Sin Avila and Tequila Walkin' the Fence Walkin' the Fence (alternate take) Love for Sale Just Coolin'
