  1. That would be easy if he didn't swamp the board almost daily with his threads; there are days when they totally dominate the "Recent Topics" column at the right, they can't be avoided. It's the same when you hit the "view new content" button. A little less would be very welcome as far as I'm concerned.
  2. Also, I think the inordinate number of threads on this board about album covers and about "hey, here's some pointless article I found on the Internet. I think I'll start a thread!" diminish the quality of real discussion about music, making this a less interesting and rewarding place to be. As they say in the U.K., "hear hear". Couldn't agree more, with both Allen and sonnymax. As for those numerous new posts by one member linking pointless articles each day, I wish he wouldn't use this board as his personal blog and stop posting those threads. As I see it they're unnecessarily taking up a lot of space and so do those silly album cover threads.
  3. Haven't heard this particular CD, but other Universal Japan remasters I've heard that came out in the last 10-15 years also suffer from boosted highs and loudness.
  4. John Tefteller told me there will be a 2014 calendar and it's due out in early September. It'll be available on their website: www.bluesimages.com
  5. How are people supposed to pay you? Western Union? He stated check/cheque or money order. Could be problematic for people in Europe. I can only speak for my own country, but we don't have cheques or money orders anymore, and Western Union payments aren't guaranteed like credit card or PayPal payments. I'm guessing Paul is selling to U.S. residents only. These days U.S. overseas shipping rates are prohibitive anyway.
  6. PD, so no original sources were used.
  7. Oh, I do hope it doesn't just include Ella's work with the band. Or does it include the material after Chick died and Ella took over for a while? MG Apparently you haven't read the descripton on the Mosaic site the first post linked to. Here it is again: http://www.mosaicrecords.com/genres.asp?dept=50 (scroll down)
  8. Mosaic's Scott Wenzel just told me the Webb/Fitzgerald set is due out in October 2013.
  9. Mosaic's Scott Wenzel just told me the earlier Tolliver Select (MS-020) is indeed OOP; the OOP list on their site will be edited.
  10. I'm glad to see that erwbol and I are not the only ones who are critical of the remastered sound.
  11. Yep, the quartet set MS-020 is the one being discussed and that one's OOP.
  12. There's just the small matter of the set being OOP...
  13. "Hancock's Half Hour" was a classic on the BBC in the 1950s and 1960s. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hancock%27s_Half_Hour
  14. That depends on the mastering and the quality of the source used for the mastering. Contrary to what some people seem to think, a remaster isn't per definition better.
  15. I'm not fan of post-Headhunters Hancock, so I'll pass. Current pre-order price on Amazon: $213.39 for 34 CDs http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Columbia-Album-Collection-1973-1988/dp/B003M3UJIK/ref=sr_1_4?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1375307703&sr=1-4&keywords=herbie+hancock+complete+columbia
  16. So am I (I can only speak for myself, of course), but in some cases the sound has been tampered with to such an extent - as is the case with a lot of "modern" remasters, at least to my ears - that I can't enjoy the music anymore. Listening to "hot" remasters like those results in quick listening fatigue and gives me headaches, and that's the last thing I need. Are you just saying (I agree, but I've heard only half a dozen discs that had such a strong effect on me) or are you talking about the boxes this thread is about? I was talking about "modern" mastering in general.
  17. As far as I know that set has the same content as the 1991 one.
  18. Seconded, assuming it's the box that was released in 1991.

  20. I really like the sound on my Threadgill set which just goes to show how individual the listening experience is, I guess. The audio system does also have a bit of influence
  21. If it has the same hot treble mastering they needn't bother. I lost my appetite for these sets with the Murray Octet. I really need to download some of these sets to compare to some of the old CDs I own. I had one set, the Threadgill, and didn't like the remastered sound. Got a few of the old CDs instead.
  22. Richter was one of the great pianists, but music from the Baroque Era was not his strong suit in my opinion.
  23. She was a distant relative, my late mother's maiden name was Reys. Never met Rita, though.
