  1. Why get a probably expensive Japanese import while you can get the same material on the Dutch 2CD-set we've been talking about on this thread? The Dutch release is excellent and I doubt the Japanese version will sound better.
  2. I'd also buy the Daley first (finances permitting), followed by the Carter/Bradford.
  3. Make that "Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ" http://www.muziekgebouw.nl/
  4. I guess they ran out of money. Their site has the following message: The MCN's state subsidies were cut by the Dutch government in an effort to reduce the national budget deficit. Pity, as the MCN used to support young musicians and all kinds of music.
  5. I admit to not really loving her famous Mozart and Schubert recordings. And that's putting it mildly. I'm not an Uchida fan either, nor are Mozart's sonatas my cup of tea - and that's also putting it mildly
  6. Yep, that Café Zimmermann set is brilliant. Get it while you can!
  7. Low taxes and almost no social security compared to Europe. It's a price the majority of the American people chose to pay. But that's a political topic that doesn't belong here
  8. Bruckner 8 - "dancing in a cathedral".
  9. You're right. I was the one who posted Gioia's tweet here, but had second thoughts soon afterwards, just because his tweet wasn't verified. It would probably have been better if I had deleted it. Couldn't agree more.
  10. Finally some good news.
  11. Ted Gioia has posted Priester's passing on twitter: https://twitter.com/tedgioia/status/300367518118313985 Sad news.
  12. You think Chuck does it for the money!!!!???? I didn't mean that he's getting rich by reissuing jazz recordings. I meant that he's not doing it to get poor. Is everyone here really this naive? Why do I have to explicitly explain everything I say? Read between the lines sometimes. It keeps the mind young! If you feel so superior to "everyone here", what are you still doing on this board?

    Donald Byrd

    Sad news.
  14. You are aware that that Dylan CD is not official? It's a European grey-label release, see this lengthy thread on the Hoffman board, from post #158 onwards: http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/bob-dylan-freewheelins-outtakes-cd-sony-copyright-issues.305047/page-7
  15. Hm, no - unless it's an FKK documentary, of course. You could freely translate FKK as "nothing to hide"
  16. Health & Safety? FSK = Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle der Filmwirtschaft, in English: voluntary self-regulation of the film industry. It's the German film classification.
  17. Discussion on the Hoffman board: http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/john-coltrane-sun-ship-the-complete-collection-verve-select-march-19.307527/
  18. As was said many times before discussing bootlegs and copyright issues is NOT against forum rules; the only thing that's not allowed is posting links to bootlegs. I really don't see how that can be a cause for a decline of this board.
  19. Well, that's not cheaper than Amazon Germany (€20.99 or about $28.50 including tax, which will be deducted from non-EU orders).
  20. Got the set today from Amazon Germany and noticed that the DVD is region-free and NTSC. Just thought I'd mention it.
  21. Jazzmessengers.com is based in Barcelona, Spain, so there'll be no routine checks or taxes and customs fees within the European Union.
  22. Keep in mind that it can take a while for a package to cross the pond and be delivered. The other way around I usually get packages from the United States within 10-14 days, but sometimes it takes longer - at the moment I'm still waiting for a set that was mailed on December 26... I'm waiting for a package from Amazon UK that was shipped 2 weeks ago. OTOH, I received a package from The Netherlands (from subdist.com) in a week. This month a package containing books from Amazon UK (not third party) I ordered with Free Super Saver Delivery was actually lost in transit. A first for me. Of course they promptly send me a replacement with expedited shipping. The lost package's last known location was Grimbergen, Belgium. I wonder if it'll ever arrive in The Netherlands and what it was doing in Belgium in the first place. All European Amazon "Free Super Saver Delivery" packages destined for the Netherlands seem to go through Grimbergen, Belgium. I guess it's a TNT distribution centre. I am now waiting for the Miles Bootleg 2 set from Amazon Germany that's supposed to be delivered today (Saturday), but according to the tracking number it's still at Grimbergen, so there'll probably be no delivery until sometime next week.

  24. You're welcome. Note, however, that the translations are sometimes pretty poor/ridiculous. It's a useful tool to get the gist of a text, though.
  25. Even cheaper in the U.K., £14.99: https://www.sainsburysentertainment.co.uk/en/Music/CD/The-Miles-Davis-Quintet/Live-In-Europe-1969/product.html?product=E11186720
