  1. Where you at? Hapy Birthday.
  2. I've never downloaded anything from itunes, but I've downloaded hundreds of songs from emusic.com. I use it the same way I used to use allmusic.com...
  3. I've been listening to a lot of music that friends have been recording recently. I tend to listen to music made by people I know over and over much more than music by all the people I don't. In a lot of ways, it has given me a renewed appreciation for music in general. My brother's band will be recording an album with John McEntire next week. I am very much looking forward to what comes out of that!
  4. You are going to be hard-pressed to find a vibraphone for under $1,000. I bought a well-used Deagan 582 from the late 60s three years ago for more than that. Refinishing/tuning costs are about half of your budget and shipping on an item this heavy is not cheap. Bruce can tell you how much mallets cost! To be realistic, you ought to try to save up more money and wait for a nice vibraphone to come along.
  5. Happy Birthday David. Sounds like a full day!
  6. I have a pair of Boston Acoustics BA635 Computer Speakers (from an old Gateway that my mom used to use). These speakers are fantastic. I have them connected to my old Graphite iMac.
  7. Happy Birthday Doc! If you haven't tried New Rivers yet, treat the missus and yourself to a nice meal. Its on Steeple St on the hill-side of the river.
  8. How about Thanksgiving?
  9. I absolutely hate all of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra shit.
  10. Walter Perkins plays kit on Bob's Pink Cadillac. Brotzmann is not Perry Robinson, for sure, but if you're interested in hearing Perkins or Robinson in recent years, that is a great place to go.
  11. Yes, she's beautiful. I've seen her perform on various tv shows over the year. She seems like a beautiful person.
  12. Wow, I hope overwhelmed doesn't mean understocked! Alan had to order additional copies from his European dist. I received my copy, but not the two Walt discs that were supposed to come along with the order... arggh. Pretty awesome response to a direct mail piece I'd say. 3-5% response rate is considered excellent.
  13. Maybe the music they are releasing just doesn't appeal to that many people. I'd love to see their sales numbers pre-internet compared with their sales numbers now. All small labels have always struggled to make ends meet. Look, I agree that file-sharing and the internet are factors that all labels need to come to grips with. In fact, I think they are, right now, the single biggest factors that labels need to come to grips with. If they don't, they will continue to see declining revenues decline, but not because people are stealing music. Because they are missing the single-most effective direct marketing tool available to their companies. Most labels no longer rely on vinyl lp's as their cash cow. They may still offer them in limited runs, but most of their output is in a CD format, much to a small minority's dismay. The generation after mine could care less about format. Then again, they could care less about Sharp Nine, Sirocco, MaxJazz, Palmetto, Omnitone, Origin, etc. Come to think of it, aside from this board, I can probably think of five people other than myself that know any of those labels by name. My point is is that format is not the problem.
  14. jazz loft was overwhelmed by over 300 orders on this DVD alone within 48 hours of sending out the message.
  15. Hey Vint, have you ever heard of Madonna before? If not, you should definitely check them out. Should be pretty easy to find their stuff.
  16. I love that commercial. That's weird. I just typed 'I love that commercial.' Thanks for giving the band's name. The music really makes it.
  17. Air Yes! Paul Motian - I Have The Room Above Her Yes! Don't miss one of the absolute masterpiece of the sax/ bass/ drums trio: - CHARLES GAYLE/ WILLIAM PARKER/ RASHIED ALI: TOUCHIN'ON TRANE (FMP) Yes!
  18. Another unreal, charged live performance: The Fringe .:. It's Time For the Fringe
  19. One of my favorites from recent years that immediately came to mind: William Parker .:. Painter's Spring (Daniel Carter, William Parker, Hamid Drake) Give it a listen, even if you have made decisions against Parker/Drake.
  20. I don't know if this has already been posted or not... For the Charles Gayle fans in the house, and I know there are many rabid fans here.
  21. "sporting wood" That is just a fantastic phrase that seems to have gone out of favor in recent years. Thanks for bringing this back into memory.
  22. Don't you just look at that picture and HEAR MUSIC? Damn.
  23. Right, NOAA is a first stop. Intellicast is actually a trusted resource as well. Very customizable reports.
  24. Here's a link on the Canon technology. I thought Toshiba was going to be marketing this, but didn't want to say anything until I found more info. SED Next Generation Flat Screen Technology My source, who used to teach lighting at SCAD, was able to spend a few hours with one of these sets and mentioned that all of the cons above were non-existent. His advice: if you are in the market for a large flat panel television, wait.
  25. Good Weather For Air Strikes Good Weather Insurance Agency (Talk about a rip-off.) Sometimes Good Weather Follows Bad People (an absolute favorite, Califone. if you are still on the fence, a friend of mine has seeded a show on etree. click below.) Don't worry. The band allows taping. This is a matrix recording, and a very nice recording at that. Unfortunately, they are touring sans Ben Massarella. Good show nonetheless. Califone Knoxville, TN 11 15 06 I digress.
