  1. I'll be in New Orleans in two weeks and hope to hit a shop or two while I'm there. Any particular recommendations for shops? Also, for those of you with a knowledge for NOLA history, any particular regional labels/artists that I should look for? Im particularly interested in learning more about the rock n roll and rhythm and blues records that were local to New Orleans. My friend's father in law, a retired editorial writer for the picayune, is a big listener who I'm sure will have some info, but I thought I'd ask the trusty organissimo brain trust.
  2. A recent friend of mine through the local record store is a DJ at a neighborhood bar. He was crazy about Nilsson. I haven't knowingly heard much of his music, and couldn't find a thread here. My impression/assumption is apparently very different from my friend's. What was his deal? Recommendations?
  3. Back when Organissimo was soliciting the forum for tunes to cover, I recommended "Ghetto Walk". There was going to be a covers album at some point. Oh well. I like "unedited-ish"! Ha.
  4. I thought it was cool to like some singers.
  5. Right Lon. They just continue to diffuse/dilute the brand. I have nothing against the music (Norah, Lebowski). Just trying to rationalize. EMI owns quite a few labels right?
  6. What is Blue Note's brand identity? I don't understand why this would go to BN.
  7. Emergency jazz collection kits.
  8. I mean I had no idea it was rare.
  9. Listening now. The splices are pretty apparent to me. I think you meant that the overall composition doesn't have that "put together feel"?
  10. Wow. I had no idea.
  11. Yes. I love the live stuff!
  12. I've had it for years. Just thinking it will be perfect to revisit with the crowd...
  13. I'm having some friends over for my birthday in a couple of weeks. This album just moved to the top of the list.
  14. I maintain that my suggestion of Ran Blake and Jeanne Lee's Newest Sound Around fits the bill perfectly. Is this oop?
  15. I bought a bunch of used records at my local today. They didn't have any of the exclusive RSD releases that I was interested in. I'm a regular customer and it was great to see an hour long line for the register for the entire two hours I was there this morning.
  16. Big fan of corny pornography. Especially the kitsch, good stuff.
  17. Is that a compliment?
  18. Wow. I had no idea what I was missing by not clicking on this thread ever. I love it in here.
  19. I think corny is a you know it when you see it sort of thing.
  20. That part was funny.
