Here's what you should think: "My team now employs a guy who could only hit singles as its hitting coach". Almost as ludicrous as when the Mets recently employed a guy who used to routinely strike out 200 times a year as their hitting coach. Magadan and Greg Jefferies were the 2 biggest "great white hope" disappointments of all my years as a Mets fan. Piece of trivia for ya: As a player with but a few games major league experience, Magadan started the game against Eckersley and the Cubs at Shea Stadium the night the Mets clinched the NL East in 1986. Refusing to be upstaged, Mex forced Davey Johnson to put him into the game in the top of the 9th (replacing a 3 singles (did I really need to point this out) in 3 AB's Magadan) so that he could be on the field for the impending celebration. Once a party animal, always a party animal!

yankee fans on new york talk radio are near suicidal, blaming everyone in sight and wanting to get rid of them.  Having grown up in NYC, I can honestly say that the "suicidal" thing didn't begin until the Yankees won in '96 and the fans came to expect playoff appearances to be purchased by ownership annually. Prior to that, Yankee fans more closely fit the "normal" mold of hoping for (not really expecting) an OCCASIONAL championship. Those of you who are willing to admit it, would agree with this assessment if only because you remember your expectations not being so high as you read the "Joe Who?" headline captured on the back pages of more than one NY rag when the most overrated baseball idiot (I can say this because this same idiot managed my team less than 20 years earlier) of all time was hired to manage your team. As far as the extraordinarily shortsighted "World Series Tournament" comment earlier in this thread goes, if the regular season best record guaranteed a champeenship, there'd be no need to have the playoffs. I can think of at least 10 Championship series SINCE 1968 that featured at least one of the best teams in the majors, if not both. Hyperbole on internet forums is apparently at least as common as talk of suicide is in NY these days.

End of the era of self-entitlement for Yankee fans. Let the new "Horace Clarke" era begin.

You switched the MD numbers for the Serge Chaloff & Paul Desmond boxes. The numbers should be: Serge Chaloff - MD4-147 - $100 Paul Desmond - MD6-120 - $175 the Desmond is 4 cd's, not 6.

That was Sam Morrison, not Newsome! -
Dick Garcia was a friend of my mom's family. I believe he passed long ago.

Front album cover photos in the booklet, but not on the sleeves for the CD's, which are plain white cardboard with album title printed. Missed opportunity there. It's a neverending conundrum to be sure. When the consumers get prices they like, they're often reluctant to understand that those lower prices come at a cost. Record companies are not charitable organizations. Printing color covers on the sleeves would have meant higher prices for the sets. Then we'd be complaining about the higher prices instead of the lack of "proper" cover art. ECM obviously decided that its customer base prefers economic integrity over aesthetic beauty. I personally have no problem with that, and wish that more record companies saw it the same way. I've never paid less than near $20 for a single ECM CD and close to $40 for doubles ("Travels", "80/81", "Sleeper") so the Jarrett set, the only box I have in that series was a good price, the packaging of those reminds me of classical boxsets. I got a mint copy of "La Scala" used for $8 tho, so thats the cheapest ECM CD I've ever bought. Why are you paying so much for ECM's? On average, I probably pay $13-$15 per.

What's retirement?

True. He's a big blowhard. And a very poor judge of talent. Instead of recognizing that they made a mistake with Sanchez, they offer him a $20 million extension? Is this the new way of pretending that you know what you're doing? Denial all the way. Jets will be lucky to go .500 this year.
-
I'm afraid my interest in a Kingless Fripp begins and ends with "Exposure".

Many NY franchises are very poorly run. The Jets are certainly no exception. Tough being a fan these days for what Woody passes off as acceptable product.

I've had several packages sent through the Chicago post office (from what I understand, among the worst in the country), head out to CA, and then to me in NY. Let's not underestimate the problems with the USPS.

If that's to what you're referring, I noticed it too & was wondering just what was meant, exactly, by "you want to keep it in your family"and on what grounds it was used. Not sure if it's racist, or an accusation of racism/favoritism/whatever, but it's certainly....something. Outside of any of that though, running clubs and hustling club gigs from those who do is, as a rule, not particularly encouraging of the flexing of humankind's better qualities. I understand, but it's not the 40s or 50s anymore, ya know? FWIW, lots of Israeli jazz musicians record for the Small's label and rely on gigs at the club for their living. That's what I think the agent was referring to. Not gonna make many friends that way, especially in NYC. As I said, I would not want someone like that representing me, because by default he becomes a reflection of me.
-
The bottom line is that it's always about the almighty buck. If you run a business using the model you've proposed, you're in the hole before you even get started. Btw, there seem to be some racist undertones present in the agent's email.
-
Read the email again. I know of no person who would purposely use "your" instead of "you're" in order to appear unintelligent.
-
I could swear that I have this. Are we all sure that Jordi and his merry band of gypsies didn't already ravage this when he was branching off doing his Spanish RCA thang?
-
On a side note, I'd be none too happy if the person representing me communicated like he scraped by with barely a GED!
-
Yeah, but as I understand it, a pitcher doesn't quite need a 32 mph speed difference in order to have an effective change-up. Despite all his current issues, Johan's still got one of the best, and his differential may be no more than 7 or 8 mph.

Yes, but it doesn't have very good sound. True, but it's all ya got.

New jazz box sets on the horizon?
JETman replied to ghost of miles's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
This has got to be the solo stuff. The Brown/Roach stuff was on the 4 cd first volume. In true intelligent record company fashion, this is nowhere to be found on the Hip-o website! Vol.2 contains the master takes of the recordings with Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughan and Helen Merrill: AMG. You're right. It even states this in the Hip-o site's description of the 1st volume. I guess this means there will be a third volume containing the jam sessions and string date? -

It's a malpractice insurance issue. Kinda like a surgeon handing you your appendix after taking it out.
