  1. That doesn't prove anything. Who mastered the original discs? Why don't you do the research and come up with the answers instead of almost always criticizing others? That (criticizing others) is all you seem to do here. Don't read my posts, then. There are many here who are more critical than me, btw. I was just pointing out that you gave a very one-sided answer. It's not rocket science, you know. As far as doing the research, the original question was not mine. I don't have the original cd's, and was just happy to have the opportunity to get them through Mosaic. Who masters what is of little interest to me.

  3. With you all the way. Personally, I've always thought that JDF got too much, too soon, and never really got his own thing together because everyone thought that he was doing it right. He's kind of a soul jazz version of Wynton Marsalis. I'll listen to him, but mainly when there's someone I like with him. MG BINGO! I find the two B-3ers that Abercrombie has played with --- Dan Wall and Jeff Palmer --- to be much more interesting.
  4. It would appear that the only reason the Dodgers did this deal was to get Adrian Gonzalez. But, TBH, I am very glad Loney is gone. He has been a Giants killer for years. As to the BoSox, I guess they are all about the youth movement now. Hm. Good luck with competing with the Yonkers. You've got that wrong. The Yankees play a few miles south of Yonkers!
  5. In their early days it was just maddening how bad they were at trades! The All Star team was full of players Houston had traded away. Joe Morgan, Rusty Staub, Denis Menke, Jimmy Wynn. Cesar Geronimo. And a bunch more. It wasn't all bad. They made out like bandits in the Nolan Ryan/Jeff Bagwell trades Edit. Just realized that they signed Ryan as an FA.I got them confused with the Angels. Still that Bagwell trade had to be one of the greatest fleeces in MLB history. True that....Mike Scott was transformed once he left the mets.He had 5 seasons in a row where he was one of the top starters in all of baseball. Imagine how good the Mets in the mid 80's would have been with Scott and Gooden! Another amazing rookie may get the call up soon, Slide Billy, Slide! http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1308245-cincinnati-reds-will-we-see-billy-hamilton-in-the-majors-this-season As I recall, Scott had more than a little help. Learning how to cheat is NOT a transformation. FYI, the Mets already had the best pitching staff in baseball by a wide margin in the mid-80s. Gooden, Ojeda, Darling, Fernandez, Aguilera, Cone. It's true the Mets had a very good starting staff(though Aguilera was never a full time starter) but Mike Scott was great...it's funny how players just swear someone is a cheater(remember how Nolan Ryan was supposedly throwing a spitter/scuffed ball, in Texas?) Seems someone mentioned recently, Enos Cabell, helped turn Scott, into great Scott... http://espn.go.com/page2/s/1986/011011neyer.html What do you know? I lived it, and I lived close to it. Aguilera was the 5th starter, whenever they needed one. Mike Scott was never great. He was scuffing, and that was not rumor. What the heck would Enos Cabell know about pitching?

  7. How ironic! Not only do we get criticized when we post on a topic, but now we're getting criticized when we don't post
  8. Nah. PEDs only happen in the Bay Area. Exactly. Melky Cabrera's BA in Chop-lanta was like .158 or something then all of a sudden he's hitting out of his shoes in KC. But the Giants were the reason why he was on PEDs. Sure. The East Coast guys are just pushed out of shape because Bud Selig made the All-Star Game result the home field advantage. Melky gets the MVP, the Yankees fans get all up in a lather [assuming they make it to the WS] and all of a sudden it's about the Giants and PEDs. Fine. Whatever. Tonight, I just want to see a Giants sweep of the [hated] Dodgers. So you're OK with a cheater maybe deciding home field advantage in the WS? How 'bout we replay the all-star game the day after the season ends?

    Brian Blade

But he's so dour and reserved... Watts and Blade are almost polar opposites stylistically to my ears, so I'm guessing the character of the band was very different than it would have been with Tain. I'll never know for sure, but you're probably right. In any case, things worked out pretty well with Blade in the drum chair, and Kenny certainly had enough personality to make up for the missing Watts. Garrett seems to have learned his lessons about making jazz more accessible to the masses well from his time with Miles in the 80s. There definitely is a "showman" component to his act, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

    Brian Blade

I saw Kenny Garrett with Pat Metheny back in 1996. Tain was supposed to be the drummer. When it was announced that he couldn't make it, I was initially disappointed. With Blade in the drum chair, my disappointment quickly subsided. He is fantastic!!! I have since seen him with David Binney at the 55 Bar several times.
  11. Do the math. Using the figures you posted, it's not. I can now give a definitive answer to this question. As stated above, allowing Amazon UK to convert from pounds to dollars would have cost me $4.86. I have been billed by my bank $2.55 for allowing it to convert. Therefore, I saved $2.31 by allowing my bank to convert the currency. The bank charged me 2% of the purchase price. Good for you; just made it by the skin of your teeth. Might have been different had you used AMEX. And before you say that AMEX is not a bank, I'd say that you should rethink your answer!
  12. Do the math. Using the figures you posted, it's not.
  13. Unless you added it yourself, you won't see it until you get your statement/bill. No online retailer (including Amazon) adds it for you.
  14. You forgot that your bank will charge you a fee for the privilege --- usually 3%.
  15. Saw John Abercrombie at a local supermarket. I approached him, and he was very shy and unassuming. He invited me to a concert he was playing that night in an Episcopal Church in my area. It was a great (and free) show. Others in the band were Andy LaVerne, Steve LaSpina and Tony Jefferson. Saw Dave Douglas at a local pool a couple of years later. He wasn't shy at all, and actually was the one who approached me because I was sporting an RCA Bluebird t-shirt. He was signed to the label at that time. We discussed a load of musical topics including how he wished that John Zorn would keep acoustic Masada working on a more regular basis. I guess, at the time, Dave didn't realize that his career was about to blossom to the extent that it has. Both of these guys, and many other jazz musicians, live in my area.
  16. yep, all 10... Well, then Clemente certainly qualifies. Is there a minimum for number of at-bats?
  17. Ok, it's not Carew; his rookie year was 1967. Clemente went 1,877 for 5,723 for an average of .328 in that 10 year period. Oliva went 1,094 for 3,550 for an average of .308 from 1962 through 1969 =======> Not the winner! Rose went 1,327 for 4,301 for an average of .309 from 1963 through 1969 =======> Not the winner! F. Robinson went 1,603 for 5,265 for an average of .304 in that 10 year period =======> Not the winner! Yastrzemski went 1,517 for 5,175 for an average of .293 from 1961 through 1969 ======> Not the winner! Looks like we MAY have a winner in Clemente, but I'm too tired to check all players who played in that decade Any other reasonable guesses?
  18. One important question: did he have to play in all 10 years included? Clemente won 4 titles, Yaz 3, Oliva, Rose, Pete Runnels and Tommy Davis 2 apiece. I'm guessing Rod Carew.
  19. Not really -- it's Don Was to the rescue!!! And UMG too!
  20. Right, he did not play during the 60s. Even the most casual of baseball fans would know this, so I'm guessing that SS1 was just being goofy.
  21. You're not doing yourself any favors.
  22. How would you like to be the American League team that goes to the World Series knowing they will not have home field advantage based upon All-Star game MVP Melky Cabrera? The ridiculousness of your query is all one needs to observe in order to understand that the AL (or any league, for that matter) deserves what it gets thanks to Buuuuuud. Give it a rest! Jetman, ridiculousness is as ridiculousness does. This year the all-star game is BUD_Squared....this one REALLY counts. Good comeback. Home field means jack to begin with. Secondly, I don't see any NL team this year beating the AL team that makes the World Series.

  24. Just found out through an email exchange with Peter Losin that this release has been delayed until early January
  25. OK they've all been released on CD in some form I suppose I was referring to US Columbia/Sony releases (especially the 2000's legacy remasters) OK, you are correct then. All of these titles will be nice to have in one place and newly touched-up. I, for one, love the 50s/60s period of Ellington. I wonder if there will be a 60s box on the horizon. It seems that Sony has found it's "Mosaic" approach to boxed set mania which should keep it busy for years to come.
