  1. "I'm the smartest guy in the room and I want you to know it!" As someone who has lived in the melting pot called New York all of my life, I can safely say that the above feeling is also part of his culture. Allen -- didn't you ever wonder why Iyer thought he had the right to be offended that you didn't realize who he was?
  2. Anyone ever wonder why the Wes or Evans Riverside boxes NEVER go on sale like this?
  3. Surprised nobody's mentioned David Binney. He's certainly more original than any of the aforementioned, and his compositions are quite inventive. He plays alto, not tenor. Maybe the focus here is on tenor for some reason?
  4. That Todd doesn't even belong in the same discussion as the one about the musicians who played at the concerts at Columbia!!!
  5. I have received confirmation from Sony that they are replacing the complete boxed sets, and NOT just the outer box. Replacements will be shipping within the next two weeks.
  6. I assume everything's ok with the discs?
  7. When I asked Scott Wenzel about a live Select, he didn't seem too oprimistic
  8. I couldn't agree more. This set is a revelation. It's tricky to find these days at a reasonable price, but sets do pop up (Academy Records (the CD store) in NYC is a good place to find these sets). I really wonder who the heck would be crazy enough to sell this.
  9. +1. Couldn't have said it better myself, and this is from someone who, like you, has EVERYTHING several times over.
  10. That Griffin is a killer record, though, isn't it?
  11. All 6 lp's included on the set (with bonus cuts) are available as RVG's.
  12. Yes, this is what I was trying to gauge, thanks. If anyone else has an opinion, please jump in. All have been available prior to the RVG reissues within the last 10 years. How long any have been oop previously is anyone's guess. I know the Moncur was highly sought after when it came out as a Conn 10-12 years ago.

  14. Yeah, I just got that email too. What a drag! That was going to be a great deal! gregmo Better than getting Pink Floyd's "Oh, By the Way" 16 cd boxed set for $23.97?
  15. They've never released the other set. So. . . why would it be included in this set? Juan Les Pins was a Japanese only release just like Agharta, Pangaea, Dark Magus, etc. Or so I thought.
  16. If they included alot of originally Japanese-only releases, why not Juan Les Pins 1969 - both sets?
  17. Music is music. Any two or more sounds can be fused together to form a new sound or sounds. Sometimes such an exercise works, sometimes it doesn't. That's all there is and was to this experiment. No need to read between the lines.
  18. Seems like a jam-packed show. How was One for All?
  19. That 2 cd set was mislabelled, and is actually from the Both/And Club in San Francisco. I think Belden goes into the story behind this in the legit release's liner notes.
  20. Yes. I saw him at the J&R jazz store years ago selling his wares. He does look suspiciously like a gangster. I do think he has a more direct involvement with all the offshoot bootleg labels than you imply, though. One thing I've noticed is that the same pseudonyms pop up across all of these "labels". It's a semi-shallow attempt to appear valid, with an eye toward "we know you know, but we don't care". I will say that I do purchase what I'm interested in, yet I hold no grudges against the copyright holders that refuse to release this stuff. Gotta get it where you can, when you can, I say.
  21. Jordi Pujol is the Godfather of the bootleggers. Fresh Sounds releases used to look pretty crappy, sorta like RLR, Gambit and Lone Hill now. Not so ironically, Fresh Sounds has become the first one that actually looks professional.
  22. Is this box an lp sized box similar to the Chet Baker Barclay one that was released a couple of years ago? How is the previously unreleased music?
  23. thanks Brad. I am surprised that the song Let It be is a result of multiple takes - I didn't hear the splice. did you get your copy of Naked yet? Any opinions. The 45 rpm and 33 1/3 rpm of Let It Be have completely different guitar solos.
  24. FWIW, I have never been a fan of Phil Spector's production values (or lack thereof), and readily welcomed Let It Be Naked when it was released. Too bad the extra disc is of little value.
  25. How is this proof enough? The track you're referring to did not appear on that album, but it appeared on a Horo anthology album, which is also easily "needledroppable". ah, had misinterpreted "unreleased track" on the blog... then it is indeed not proof enough... does sinesio's name appear on the cds? No, and no copyright accreditation to Horo on the outside of the package either. As I said previously, these are boots.
