  1. No proper confirmation yet, but so it seems: https://slippedisc.com/2019/01/slipped-disc-uk-dealer-goes-phut/ That leaves just two independent classical mail order retailers in the UK, I think - Europadisc and Presto. MDT had just revamped their website, which makes this seem quite sudden.
  2. Never sure what guys outside the UK can access, but upcoming this week are five one-hour broadcasts about Billy Strayhorn. This Composer of the Week series is usually serious and well curated, so I expect this to be no different. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m00016tb
  3. Yes the SACD player is ten years old - many are, I guess, as very few are made any more. The brand new disk plays, but at one or two points just can't. I've three or four old SACDs which now have drop outs or jams, but all others play fine - so who knows, and I am not going to buy another one just to a/b. Probably.
  4. Very true on vinyl. The new one i can return, changing the cases is just a hassle (but also at some point a small cost). Not a CD-R, an SACD, which is another stroy I suppose.
  5. So after not buying even one CD for about 12 months I began to fleamarket shop from amazon sellers. First three I bought were fine and good value. Nos four and five arrived with broken arms and missing teeth. Meanwhile madness struck and I ordered a new and full price CD, which was faulty and would not play. I had actually been toying with going back to CD but - such a hassle...

I listen to Linear B literally every day. The opener, Love Life, is my alarm tone!

  8. Milford Graves maybe just fits your definition. Good question, by the way.
  9. Maybe. But I also heard you slip Roscoe a twenty from time to time to sort out your gutters.
  10. Terrific, inventive record. Maybe - just maybe - the liner note don’t do it full justice...
  11. Well, not by name of course, but...
  12. It has been reduced to £15. Over that they hold it until you pay. You have three weeks to pay, after which they send it back. Too much like hard work.
  13. I have all the Shepp on LP, so maybe time for a rare foray into CD for me - ? Maybe we’ll get an Alice Coltrane and a Pharoah Sanders in due course? Marion Brown??
  14. I searched on amazon.co.uk for “5 original albums” to find these. Apart from the Shepp and various classic era Blue Notes there is a Petrucciani and a Haden set.
  15. The upcoming Shepp will be worthwhile I’m guessing folks have all this stuff covered but the Morgan, Mobley, McLean etc should please some.
  16. Back soon in the juicy Five Original Albums set...
  17. ambient style, richly recorded
  18. the curmudgeonliest trumpet in town... Bill Dixon, Envoi (Victo 2011)
  19. And violate Starfleet’s Prime Directive? I don’t think so.
  20. Sure, I just mean they can’t sell sets of which they have zero copies, so no more profits on that investment. I passed because of SQ issues regarding the live set (the masters were issued in Andorra and have more bass presence and none of the high frequency artefacts), but I’m kicking myself now. I did get a copy of the booklet.
  21. So no liquidity is a ‘strategy’...
  22. Oh I am! That was my first Mosaic. But I also enjoy a corny pun. That set really does feel like a link to the heady days of the reissue...
