  1. I agree it's a lot better than most people would expect, but have you hear this one? I might, might, put it above Rural Still Life, in spite of the off-putting concept and cover. Tom Scott - soprano & tenor sax, flute Roger Kellaway - piano, harpsichord, clavinet Chuck Domanico - bass John Guerin - drums Interesting to see Chuck Domanico's name pop up, and on a 70s Impulse! no less. His work with Anthony Ortega is magnificent and I've been wondering what else he did.
  2. Amazing success!! I'm glad it was such a hit. Is Steig's Flute Fever still next up?
  3. Correct.
  4. http://www.leorecords.com/?m=christmassale More or less the whole back catalogue on sale at £2 per disc. The catch is that you have to buy in multiples of 10. But that oughtn't be hard for those interested, and the deal is still extreme.
  5. Can you link to the Amazon UK page for that please?
  6. Another good take on Ebay, for 5.99
  7. Nice. Been trying to score a clean US Savoy pressing of this for years. Never even heard of that one. Good to know there's more Ted Brown around.
  8. I'd say Jackie's music is about as unrelaxing as it gets.
  9. Really wish Mosaic would do a Konitz-on-Verve set, of which this material would be the cornerstone. I emailed them about it earlier this year but did not get a response back. Many years ago they said they were looking into it.
  10. Scorpio reissue. Killer stuff, but makes sense that it wasn't released at the time: it doesn't really fit the flow of Jackie's records starting at Let Freedom Ring.
  11. Yeah, great great video. Does anyone have info on the recording session that was being filmed? Looked like Cuscuna in the background there. I was digging it.
  12. For some reason I was the sole bidder on a perfectly fine looking copy of Afternoon of a Georgia Faun: 98 cents. There was another, plain old copy with multiple bidders up to nearly $25.
  13. No, more like the cheap repressing of the Billie Holiday Columbia box.
  14. My guess: euro budget box.
  15. All of these are available from sellers on Amazon for less than $7. That sure didn't take long.
  16. Morton and Cook suggest Hemphill/Wadoud are an extension of Dolphy/Carter which I think is an interesting thought. I'm always fascinated to hear people's theories on Dolphy's Influence; there has to be something there but I think it's hard to discern which is what makes him such an interesting figure to me.
  17. Note this: I saw this story when it first posted and the headline was "Smooth No More: Jazz Gets Political" (which is six different kinds of stupid all by itself) but when I checked back a couple hours later they somehow slipped OWS in there. Absolutely random and definitely not the original impetus for the article. & I don't think it needs to be said that political jazz was made all through the 70s, 80s, 90s, and 00s. For that matter saying that jazz took an "easy listening" bent in the 80s is totally odd, like saying that Peter Cetera-era Chicago wholly characterized rock and pop music in the 1980s.
  18. No offense intended but I thought the article was ridiculous.
  19. Ha! Spoke too soon! On its way.
  20. PM on Cyrille
  21. Finally placed my order via Amazon Prime today but alas no shipping notice as there ought to have been. Damn.

    Anthony Braxton

Yeah, I saw the blurb at Restructures but thanks for posting it. I'd so love to hear it.

    Anthony Braxton

I was flipping through Forces In Motion and was reminded: just what the he'll came of the massive solo box set that Locke recounts in the book? I don't have it in front of me but I'll check the details when I get home. Braxton recorded I think 8 or 10 LPs of solo saxophone music for release. The discography lists a label and tracklist but obviously this never came out. Where is this stuff and who owns it? THAT would be a major release.
