  1. I recommend this: Royal Roost airshots on disc 1, Paris 1949 on disc 2. About $3 on Amazon.
  2. A double dose of Black jazz on ECM: Leo Smith - Divine Love Jack DeJohnette Special Edition - Inflation Blues
  3. In the past, I maintained and anything and everything stance toward acquiring Mosaics. I've since changed my tune and have decided to stick only to sets that a) contain large amounts of material available nowhere else (Andrew Hill & Carter-Bradford Selects) or that would be almost impossible to assemble from original sources (Tal Farlow) or when this isn't necessarily the case b) artists whom are among my absolute favorite (Hank Mobley, Anthony Braxton, Gerry Mulligan). This is most certainly the latter and I will definitely be getting it.
  4. Have you sold a lot on ebay before? If not, be warned: they will keep your earnings for a month or more if you're using PayPal. I didn't know this going in and was pissed to find out. Even when they have tracking information for the package and it displays as 'delivered' you will still not get your money for sometimes weeks. I don't know how they can do that, but they do.
  5. I've been wanting to know a good source for them as I'm interested in racking up the Armstrongs. Anybody? There's an Ebay seller with the available volumes of the Louis series for a shade under $30 each. Good deal?
  6. In regards to the Eddie Johnson being found more easily in the Midwest, this is probably true. I've noticed that record shops in Chicago always majorly underprice records from Chicago labels, maybe for this reason. I got mine from Dusty Groove for 3 bucks. I've also seen Thrill Jockey, etc. vinyl in the $2-5 range at Reckless.
  7. PM on 4 Goodman, Benny - UNDERCURRENT BLUES (Capitol, some water damage on booklet)
  8. Like new. Discs 4-8 are sealed, the rest listened to once. $150 shipped in the US.
  9. Funny, the Mosaic is sitting on my turntable right now.
  10. Can anyone speak to the Masters of Jazz box set vols. 1-5, which runs up to 1925? How complete a view of pre- Hot Fives Louis is this?
  11. My guess: more than they will ever sell.
  12. Grooves-inc had them for $8.26 but I see they're now up to $10. Pity.
  13. Yep. The vinyl was plentiful. I have all this stuff already but couldn't possibly recommend it more highly. I also think this one is essential: The early demos are beautiful ("A Song For You" stretches out wonderfully to six minutes) and the 1973 material is actually listenable, unlike the eventual LPs.
  14. Me too. I realized that many OJCs/Concord RVGs/Keepnews Collection titles I bought at discount the last couple years I actually have little interest in. Then there's also the OCD thing I have about only seeing "quality" CDs on the shelf. I got bothered by seeing lots of sawcut copies of albums I didn't care for and sold them off. But I still wrestle with the quality-over-quantity dilemma which I find is something that is best sorted out in hindsight.
  15. Up after that are 689: Marc Copland/Dave Liebman Duo - Impressions and 688: Noah Kaplan Quartet - Descendants. I will certainly get the Ayler. Anyone have an opinion on Noah Kaplan or Samuel Blaser? Rather uninspiring lot this time around. One project listed on the future releases is a Ran Blake album of George Russell music. Very interested to hear more about that one.
  16. Got mine yesterday. Only managed to get two tracks in but I can tell I'll be listening to this one a lot. I love Malachai Favors and relish this opportunity to hear him in a straight up small group setting. Alvin Fielder is in great shape too. I'll have to hear more to get a sense of Fred Berry but I like what I've heard so far. Thumbs way way up.
  17. Hm, Les could've just stayed home that day ...
  18. Will you print more or is that it?
  19. I haven't heard Lorrach in particular, but I love the 1966 European Tour material on Holy Ghost. I think the band has a great sound with Michael Sampson on board. Hopefully the touted reissue/expansion of this record will be out in the next couple batches of hatOLOGY discs.
  20. Indeed. A one of a kind musician.

    Anthony Braxton

I took the plunge and pre-ordered Trillium E from TCO. Looks like a handsome package:
  22. I have the Jones on LP and adore it. If you like swing, you will too. I have considered upgrading to the CD and likely will now.
  23. Liebman/Beirach sold. These are the remaining titles offered shipped for the price listed, or for trade.
