  1. It sound changed a lot I think. I was used to hear his warm crisp sound. His sound was more scratchy on this album, and more like Sam Rivers.
  2. This is really a great album. What a treat...... Sonny on soprano sax! Is this the only time he played it. Anyway, every tune on the album (especially the ones that Rollins wrote) has a memorable melody to it, and the musicians are great. Highly recommended.
  3. I'm thinking of getting the new album. I loved Friends Seen And Unseen so much. This group he has now is my favorite group Hunter has had yet. I understand this album is more rocking. I don't think much musical intelligence is going on in this album though. Just funky grooves.
  4. Not for, it just appeals to them. I just went to an MMW concert. They played great, and there was a lot of intricate things going on. Unfortunately, the room was filled with pot smoking hippies, who will dance to anything.
  5. They're all great musicians. I'm sure they can run through tunes like Giant Steps, and Confirmation, but this is what they do. I still like what they do, but their scene is really stupid.
  6. 15 minutes late, the band arrived on stage. Acoustic groove, audience heads bopping. First half hour, sign of hippies dancing in the isle. Medeski jammin', Martin groovin, Wood at the bottom. First hour, intermission. Hippies stop dancing, and most people go to the rest room. 15 minutes later, MMW returns on the stage. They open up this groovin number, and a whole bunch of people go running up to the stage, dancing like assholes. The first smell of deadheads blazin' up, getting a headache from all the weed they're smoking. Guy dancing standing up in front of me, get him to sit down. Staff makes people sit down, hippies still are dancing in the isles, though somewhat entertaining... and hilarious. The show continues, they finish, come back for an encore, and the show is over. What a night. All in all, a nice preformance.

I don't really like the Elektric band anymore. My tastes move rapidly. I don't call my self a fusion fan. I'm no Weather Report fan, neither the hard stuff Tony Williams was putting out. I'm more into newer jazz artists, where the drummer does some back beat things, but doesn't forget about swinging. I need variety in my music.

I just bought Hym of the Seventh Galaxy by Return to Forever. I was kind of turned off. It was very heavy, but I knew the song Senor Mouse from a Herb Alpert record in 1975, so i bought it, and that tune was very nice. Today, I bought Light As a Feather. Awesome! This recording of Spain is absolutely tremendous! The vocals, Joe Farrell... the whole thing is great!
  9. Seeing Medeski Martin Wood tomorrow night in New Jersey. I hope it will be good. Anyone know what their concerts are like?
  10. It's back.. Thanks

I love his sound on Mundell Lowe's Transit West album.
  12. I'm trying to get my pc back to when u turn it on, you select who's account you go under. It says you have to un-install "Client Services for NetWare." Does anyone know what this is, or how I would uninstall it???
  13. Awesome! That is a beautiful pair of vibes. I been looking for some cheap used ones. Can't find em anywhere!
  14. Dabble? That was his main instrument until he heard Afro-cuban music. He went back and forth from vibes and drums early with the Brubeck trio.
  15. Stick controls a bitch. Look who wrote it... no wonder. That's a great book. It'll give you a workout. I'm self taught at drums, and vibes. I took piano lessons for 5 years, then taught myself organ technique.
  16. Soulive just get's me pissed off. They're so unconsistant. They put out a great funky album, that I can't get enough of, and then they come out with a stupid album like their newest, Breakout. Soulive stepped into the background for their new release.
  17. How do you get your B3 around? I'm wondering how I will get that thing around to places if I buy that thing.
  18. Do you know if his mama is? Do you know anything about this? All i know, she's giving some white kid saxophone lessons.
  19. Boy do I feel better now. Can someone help me out here? This is a generational thing, right? I was raised on the concept of home taping. This was something my friends and I did all through high school and college. Want to share some good music with a friend? Make 'em a tape. I don't think there was *any* music that I was exposed to in high school and college (including jazz) that I didn't have *first* on a homemade tape. So then CD burning comes into play. I burn discs for friends, they burn discs for me in exchange. Is this a foreign concept? The idea was always to trade music for music. No one ever profits. If I like something a whole bunch, I'll usually pick it up in a commerical copy. It seems to me that the "ethics" of copying only came in once CD burning became a factor. No one was complaining when we were making dubs onto tape. Why is that? Is it a sound quality thing? Hey, I just bought Hank Mobley's Workout. (legally, of course) I have a sneaking suspision that Hank Mobley is not getting the money that I payed for the cd. Boy that's odd.....
  20. Is this organ good for 30 bucks? Hammond M3 I can actually pick this one up.
  21. Any source that get's me my Blue Notes is a friend of mine.

Not totaly. He lost sight in one eye and can see very little in the other. When I studied with him, he could still read the Syncopation book.
  23. I just got walmart 88 cent music downloads. Boy, what a selection! I'm not sure if it's better than I-tunes, but it's cheaper and I haven't had any trouble finding musicians I searched for. I downloaded about ten Blue Notes already. This is great!

I'm studying Master Studies currently, and there is some fantastic licks in that book. Which is why I thought to make this topic. He was perfect in the 60's. His drumming was crisp, sharp, clean, and on time. He was a technical genious. I think he's lost his feel now though. He still has the chops, but he plays so loud and when he plays with a group, the drums are definately a showcase, because his drumming is so fireous. What do you think about his playing? Have you heard any of his recent solo albums?
