Trying to track down all their work together, it is so good. I have: New York Eye and Ear Control Vibrations/Ghosts Hilversum Sessions Jazzhus Montmartre 9/3/64 as part of the Revenant Box There are three radio tracks from 9/10/64 I have as a download. It seems they are combined on two different Hatology CDs, one paired with Hilversum, one paired with 9/3/64. I would consider getting the latter just to have the three tracks, if I can find a reasonably-priced copy. But before I do that, I am wondering if there is any other material out there from their European tour? This French book I have on Don Cherry refers to a date on Philology on 11/5, also from Jazzhus. Has that ever been on CD? I don't even see it in the discographies. Thanks!

There is a discussion about this on a private mailing list I am on. The Dragon release was authorized by Sonny and everyone got paid. There is paperwork. Zevvers had it pulled from Spotify.

Wow! So frustrating. If I had just connected with Michael we could have figured it all out at the Library of Congress, but I was not digging through copyrights yet when Michael was working on this. What year was it? I am pretty sure I was still in grad school.

It is too bad I was not old enough to be in the loop back then. All of these tunes had lead sheets deposited for copyright. I had a bunch of copyright deposits pulled in the 90s for many composers and they are now collected in boxes, accessible to researchers in the Music Division at the Library of Congress. It is not advertised on their website, however. This is the same source used for many of the unrecorded pieces that the Herbie Nichols Project premiered. Now, the Nichols family found more music in a trunk, and Ben Allison just recorded 6 of them. Bertrand.

Those long jams like Spare Chaynge, Bear Melt and Thing are the Airplane at their best. Spencer Dryden is great too.

Whatever happened to Feldman's gig with Blue Note? What came out of that: 1) Lee Morgan Lighthouse 2) Blakey Just Coolin' 3) Blakey in Tokyo Anything else? I could use some more Lee Morgan since that seemed to be his focus per the above list. It would be great if he could rescue the Grant Green/John Patton and the Duke Pearson Big Band Left Bank tapes from wherever Sunnenblick at Uptown was hiding them, but I have pretty much given up.

That is exactly the problem. CDrs often fail after a short amount of time. I know Ben but I did not want to ask him directly. My hunch was right that it is a touchy subject with artists... Bertrand. PS: Afterbeat was written for Archie Shepp during the time they hung together with Roswell Rudd. I bet he would get a kick out of hearing it. Can we make this happen?

I hesitated to post the outcome. The project was discontinued at the request of the family. Not sure what is going on but this is a lost opportunity to champion this underappreciated artist. All the money was refunded.
