  1. Quintet session w/Dorham on the frontline & the Elmo Hope Trio (Hope/Percy Heath/Art Blakey) for four tracks, and then a leftover Thelonious Monk/Sonny Rollins track with Paul Chambers & Art Taylor added to the original 10"-LP to make it a 12"-LP. It's good and although I wouldn't call it a classic, it's still worth having. Imagine if Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers had employed Sonny & Elmo and you oughta have a pretty good idea. Or if the Elmo Hope Trio replaced Max Roach and backed Sonny & Kenny in the new Brown-Roach Inc. after Clifford passed away.
  2. Agree completely. Nothing would be sweeter than to see the Packers' entire defensive line put a big fat red target on Favre's ass on October 1 and and make sure he doesn't make it past the 1st drive of the 1st quarter.
  3. You're tied with about 42 games left, so now every game matters. I looked at the Rangers schedule the other day and they have a pretty favorable one. The last three games against the Angels may be gimmes if the Angels have clinched and they want to rest players. Much better than last year for you, right? No doubt about it: no one expected the Rangers to be this good this deep into the season (much less at all!). Still, aside from the inconsistent bats, the Rangers' biggest problem has been their inability to beat the so-called "easy" teams: they can take care of the Angels and the Red Sox with the greatest of ease, but the Twins? How in the name of the baseball gods can a team be this good, yet blow five-run leads for two consecutive games and lose to a team that is where the Rangers usually are this time of year? That's baseball, I guess... Big Al, Didn't you hear on ESPN that the Twins are part of the most exciting division race in the major leagues? There only 5 games back, they could go all the way. A-freakin-MEN!!!!
  4. $5 for Blue Mitchell's A SURE THING??? That's a HELLUVA deal for that wonderful (and OOP) disc. Somebody grab it! I would, but I already have it. Probably my favorite of Blue's Riversides, and that's saying a lot cuz there isn't a bad one in the bunch, IMO.
  5. I'm actually surprised Jerry Jones didn't snatch him up - he's usually infatuated with players like Vick - mainly because they're notorious and (in Jones' mind) create more curiousity for his team.... not that they may actually be beneficial on the field. IMO of course. You don't think..... no, it couldn't be.... it's just too unreal to consider..... maybe Jerry's learned something after all these years?

  7. Bringing up this five-year-old thread because it still remains one of my favorite BFTs after all this time (spinning it right now, again for the umpteenth millionth time!). Now, thanks the Concord blowout, I believe my collection now has more CDs from this BFT than any others (including my own, I'm pretty sure): Track 3: Sir Charles Thompson: Mr. Big Horn (Charles Thompson) Delmark CD DD-450 Takin' Off. Track 12: Cal Tjader Trio - Vibra-Tharpe (Cal Tjader) Fantasy FCD-24764-2 Extremes. Track 13: The Ron Crotty Trio - Ginza (Vince Guaraldi) Fantasy FCD-24760-2 The Jazz Scene: San Francisco Track 15: Cal Tjader Quartet - Triplet Blues, 6th movement of the San Francisco Suite (Cal Tjader) Fantasy FDC-24742-2 Sentimental Moods. Track 21: Cal Tjader - Mambo at the "M" (Luis Kant) Fantasy FCD-24730-2 Black Orchid. So, once again Mike, thanks for an absolutely fantastic and unbelievably swinging BFT!!!
  8. Pudge is back! YAAAAAAY!!!! Always figured he'd be back eventually to wrap up his career with the Rangers. Last night hurt, though. Seems like everyone else in the race won but the Rangers. OUCH!!!
  9. Package arrived yesterday, everything nicely packed, padded, & packaged!
  10. There were a number of items I purchased, that would have cost me some big bucks say through Amazon Marketplace. To me a small price to pay in order to get some hard to find releases. Yes! There's something very cool about seeing your purchase confirmation with the words "You saved $[hundreds] by ordering from us!"
  11. Shit like this makes me wish there was a way to ignore posters within certain threads, because frankly Dan, as much as I enjoy discussing jazz with you and doing the BFT thing with you, I'm sick to death of opening this thread and reading your latest fair-weather profanity-laced diatribe against your alleged "favorite" team. I'm also tired of you trashing my team all the time, as if they're not worthy to play in the same major league as your team. Did you notice that the Rangers DIDN'T roll over and play dead after Friday night? Last year's team would've done just that (and, in fact, they did after that one game where they were down by ten, came back to take the lead, only to blow it again and again); I'm damn proud of the Rangers that they bounced right back and took the remaining two games. I'm sorry you feel that the Rangers don't play to your standards, but I sure as hell am not sorry that the Rangers owned the Sox this year, taking 7 of 9. What really pisses me off is you don't give credit to anyone: in your world, this happened because the Red Sox are "contemptible pieces of shit," not because the Rangers actually played good baseball this year! As for your October comment, yeah, I hope the Rangers win as well, but I'm not holding my breath. However, if it irritates Red Sox fans like you if the Yankees beat the Rangers in the first round (which is still anybody's grab as of today, the season isn't over last time I checked), I'm quite alright with that, too. (EDITED. Last paragraph re-written.)
  12. Aw man, RED ALERT is a terrific album! Don't understand why anyone wouldn't enjoy it!
  13. Don't know. They get shipped to me, I remove the jewel cases and just ship the contents. Makes for smaller packages and less postage. I get reimbursed, of course. But do they pay extra for hot metallic pink envelopes? I'm not sure I want that representing me in another country.....
  14. Well, you can be forgiven, comrade: you were only two at the time and I was still a few months away from making my debut, otherwise I mighta helped out!
  15. WTF is WFC?
  16. Big Al

    BFT 67

    Put me on the list!
  17. Yeah, and they weren't even that good. They're videos of Small Talk-era SFS playing "Everybody is a Star" and another classic-era track.
  18. Yeah, man! Go ahead and start the signup thread and let's get this ball rolling again!

  20. I'd sell you mine except: a) I lost the DVD b) I got rid of Small Talk and replaced it with the remastered Greatest Hits (which Sony/Legacy shoulda done in the first place!) c) I'd rather not! Sounds like you got some good leads, though. Good luck!
  21. "May I say before this record spins to a close, I want you to know that anything goes." from Songs for Swingin' Lovers Always thought it strange that that song wasn't the last song on the record!
  22. I got everything I ordered except the two Peter Leitch discs. These were the two I wanted to hear the most, and I'm not holding my breath that these will get filled in 30 days, but hey: 16 out of 18? I'll take that! Another board member who lives outside the US had a whole boatload shipped to me: out of 65 CDs ordered, 61 shipped! My office looks like a used-CD store right now!
  23. We've already made our down-payment at GameStop!
  24. I thought getting the Miles Davis Quintet Prestige box would finally reveal what I've been missing all these years. Hey Skid, if you're looking for somplace to dump your JJ Mosaic, I'll gladly trade you my Miles box, some vintage Styx records (including an original Paradise Theatre with the hologram on side 2; don't worry, I've got extras), a Steve Perry autographed 8-track of Infinity, and the Chicago 17 cassette that the buyer of my Nissan refused forgot to take when she bought the car from me.
  25. What is it about the Rangers that they can beat teams with a better record than theirs (Angels & Sox), but can't do squat against teams with a worse record than theirs (Seaatle & the Tribe)? Boggles the mind, it does.....
