I don't know the whole story in terms of the changes that have taken place with his import business, but Rick moved from the waterfront area (Rick Ballard Imports) years (10-15?) ago, and opened "Grooveyard" on Telegraph. I haven't been back up there since, but apparently he moved to Claremont some time ago. A great guy to do business with. http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=10182

So far this was their first and only meaningless game, so let's see what develops. Maybe it has to do with the fact that there are limited roster spots, and Freddy, still a relatively young and inexperienced kid, is still working his way up toward the front of the line. Frankly, I'm very glad we've reached a point where some very good players are not currently in the mix. Depth may prove to be very important if injuries become a serious problem for the higher level players. Quaranta looks okay to me, but mostly for his energy. He's pretty good with the ball, but sometimes I question his decisions and his passing skills. I was frustrated (again) with our (lack of) finishing against Guatemala. It was good to see Twellman and Cunningham get an opportunity, but it's tough when you have to hope for "instant chemistry" like that with a group of backups. Still, we have to find a way to take advantage of our good chances. Eddie Johnson's header off Donovan's service in the late going was the most glaring failure in that regard. A little rust after his injury layoff, perhaps, but there's just no excuse for blowing a chance like that.

Anybody care to describe this for someone who can't open it?

I haven't really examined the new releases, because I probably have most of the material already. This is the comp that got me started a few years ago: Contains: what a little moonlight can do, little girl blue ,my one and only love, the best is yet to come, midnight sun, the good life, you'd be so nice to come home to, time after time, all of you, the very thought of you, back in your own back yard, when the sun comes out, at long last love, you've changed, someone to watch over me, i wish you love, angel eyes, here's that rainy day, the song is you, miss otis regrets

I agree she can have her ups and her downs, but I enjoy a lot of the stuff she did for Capitol in the 60's. I can't say if it's the same version, but "In a sentimental mood" is one of the tracks included on my most recent acquisition of hers- BUT BEAUTIFUL (Capitol, 1969), with Hank Jones, Ron Carter, Grady Tate, and Gene Bertoncini. This is one of the three CD bonus tracks, not on the original LP.

It's a disgrace that the U.S.-Mexico match was not televised on an accessible, english language network. I added FSC as a premium channel to our cable package, and would have thought they'd carry it, but no. It was on ESPN "Classic", which is not a basic level cable channel. Anyway, I watched it live on Telemundo (after watching games like this on Univision, Telemundo, Galavision, etc, for the last 25+ years, I'm used to it, although I still can't understand every word). The U.S. looked sluggish (as did Mexico) in the first half, but they settled into a nice rhythm in the second half. Keller's save off of Morales' free kick in the waning moments of the first half was very important going into the locker room. Ralston's goal was one of those where the scorer gets the credit and the attention, but it was really earned by Oguchi Onyewu. As I mentioned in an earlier post, Oneywu is becoming a serious threat on set pieces. Eddie Lewis' service was nearly over Onyewu's head, but he's so big and strong, the Mexican defenders couldn't keep him from getting to the ball and flicking an off-balance header off the inside of the far post. For his sake, I wish it would have gone in, but at least Ralston was well positioned for the nod-in. Beasley's goal was really well taken, and a pretty play, the way they drew two defenders toward the corner and then had Beasley sprint into the box for Reyna's service. Beasley had a nice game overall, but I disagreed with Telemundo's choice of him as man of the match. Onyewu's (okay, Ralston's ) goal was far more important, and Onyewu was steller at the back throughout the match, almost completely denying Borguetti from getting his head (or his feet) on the ball. Mexico managed just two shots on goal, so my hat is off to the entire defense. Maybe it's time for FIFA to move the U.S. ahead of Mexico in the world rankings...

"I go with September 1, 1957 on Sonny's Crib. That is what 2nd edition of Cuscuna/Ruppli gives. September 1, 1957 was a Sunday, which was generally Blue Note's day of the week at Van Gelder's. October 9, 1957 was a Wednesday." I just noticed that my original CD version also gives October 9, 1957. Never caught the error before. I wonder if it has anything to do with those two dates being somewhat similar in numerical form... 9/1/57 and 10/9/57 (or 09/01 vs 10/09).

Actually it was #140, not 141. My next DVD purchase (aside from the next COMBAT release- season 5, which is due out any day now) will likely be this. Not a series, but a 1968 made-for-tv movie that I only saw once (on PBS, probably in the 1970's). It made a big impression, and I've been thinking about finding it ever since. I hadn't realized it was on DVD already. Some reviewers have called this the greatest version of this story every filmed. Palance's performance was riveting.

Along the lines of what Dan and SS said, I feel like my Blue Note hunting days are pretty much over (and were basically over awhile ago, actually). The only things that I've really been very anxious to hear over the last several years are still in the "rejected" category. Probably for good reason I know, so... life goes on. It's sad... there's hardly anything exciting coming to light in the world of jazz recordings anymore. All we get these days is stuff like Dizzy and Bird in '45; Monk and Trane at Carnegie Hall; maybe some Coltrane lost Impulse stuff... yawn...

Forgot to mention... another drawback (to me) in terms of crate storage is that you have to flip through your LP's "frontally". If the crate isn't close to being full, the LP's at the front and at the back are in danger of getting warped from the weight of the other LP's, or extra wear and tear from constantly hitting the front or back of the crate. On the other hand, if the crate is full, you can't search very easily for what you're looking for. Mosaic boxes wouldn't be quite as susceptible to damage perhaps, but I've always preferred shelves and searching via the spines.

No doubt the traditional styled "fruit crates", with vintage labels (or facsimiles thereof) affixed to the ends. Unless one is frequently moving the LP's around (as a group), I've never understood the appeal of wooden crates for storing LP's at home (unless one is a vintage fruit label enthusiast, of course, which I could easily understand). They're rough, and in some cases splintery. When low on shelf space, I've always found that the floor (in a clean, cool area) is a perfectly good place to stand a bunch of LP's (or Mosaic boxes). All you need is a good pair of bookends. I'm like Patricia, btw... storing LP's flat worries me.

If Mosaic Was A Man, What Would His First Name Be?
Jim R replied to JSngry's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I just realized that statement was my 500th post. I squandered number 500 on that? Time to go listen to some blues. ← Not to worry. Chances are, a lot of 500th posts here have been things like: or "Up, with additions" or "This is my 500th post!! I can't believe that! Can you believe that? Wow..." -
... must be Friday night.

As long as "Mose" is ruled out, I think we'll be in pretty good shape... -
Just listened to my 1989 CD version. While it does fade slightly before the abrupt ending, I sort of get the impression that the abruptness of the ending was by design. Kind of a weird tune to begin with.
