This line stood out for me... “If Corey had known or had reason to suspect family members would object to this, he probably wouldn’t have done it,” Probably. That's great. Good man.

Getting rid of that gosh darned Facebook!

Thanks again, BW, I appreciate your time and input. Still a mystery to me, but maybe I'll be able to sort it out if it occurs again. -

Thanks, BW. This message really didn't seem to originate from an individual, based on the address. Also, another thing I didn't mention is that they addressed me as "Jim" in the body of the message. Not sure I can make sense of that, if they only harvested my e-mail address from other members. If it happens again, I'll be more careful about saving more details. The distinction here is that the email you received is user-triggered. The bot or whoever it was likely put your email address AND name in the form that sends the email, which is why the email was addressed to "Jim". Where/how would the bot have gotten my first name? Just to be clear, I didn't click on any link in the e-mail (thus I'm not sure what you mean by "landing page"). The grid of user photos (people from our address book) was in the body of the e-mail. -

Did you ever allow facebook access to your email to search for people you already know on facebook? If not, what you're saying is possible - they could be noticing that your email address turns up in a bunch of other people's contact lists. Or it's possible that their algorithm is just noticing that you share lots of friends (or friends of friends). That's the connection I have with most of the friend suggestions - they worked at the same company as me and we usually share a number of acquaintances. Funnily enough, I know a few Facebook engineers and this subject came up in conversation with one of them tonight. Your last guess was correct - for some (not all AFAIK) of the friend suggestions, they actually harvest the email addresses from other people's uploaded contact lists and match it (if possible) with the email address associated with your Facebook account. Slightly creepy, but there you have it. We received an e-mail this morning that seems relevant to this discussion. Unfortunately, I deleted it several hours ago (kind of a panic move on my part... I should have labeled it as spam), so I can't be as precise about it as I otherwise would have been. Anyway, I just remembered that this thread existed, and decided to read through the whole thing. I'm not nearly as savvy about these things as most of you who have posted, and I'm a bit perplexed. First of all, we don't use Facebook, and have never registered. Our kids have, but they have their own computers now. I've never gotten any Facebook-related emails, except legit ones from a few old high school friends who were inviting us to join. I didn't recognize the name of the sender of this morning's e-mail (it was something odd, like a funny handle of some kind), but the subject was Facebook-related (an invitation to befriend someone). I opened it expecting it to be from someone in that circle of old friends. I was kind of alarmed by what I saw. First of all, there was an image of the "sender", an attractive woman, but I didn't recognize her. The sender's address seemed to indicate to me that it was not sent by an individual, but some sort of automated system or bot. If this really originated from Facebook, and not an individual member, then the photo and the phony handle are a pretty unethical approach to take. What really alarmed me, though, was a grid of member/friend photos that was displayed below the message, and in addition to the aforementioned high school acquaintances that I knew were Facebook users, there were other people whose names and addresses are in our Mac's address book. Two of them were Organissimo members that I didn't even know were on Facebook (I'm not naming them here, because I don't think either of them has posted in this thread). So, my initial reaction was that our address book might have been hacked, which is why I promptly deleted the message. After reading the above exchange, I suppose that our address might have simply been harvested from Facebook users that we know, but is that still likely even though we aren't registered users ourselves? -
I think I've recommended it here just about every year since 2003, in various threads. To me, it's underrated, and I don't buy that it was gimmicky or whatever. Grant was "on" that day, imo, and got a particularly good tone. I don't believe in "essential", either. To me, it swings like crazy.

WOW!!!! This is highly important, not only because there are so few videos of Thomas, but because of the vintage and the quality of the recording. Up until fairly recently, the only videos of R.T. were very short and not so great, but this is wonderful. Now, don't forget the other one posted by the same person... and I think this one might be even better than 'Oleo' (it's longer, for one thing): Thomas / Jaspar Quintet #2 I recognize the tune, but I would have to go through and listen to my CD's to remember the title.

Falling in love again... Eyes open or shut, it's that perfect mix of melodic/harmonic/rhythmic imagination and breathtaking chops that never fails to give me chills and makes it difficult to remain seated (I liked it). Not sure I'd seen this whole clip, so muchas gracias.

I don't know, but just fyi, BMG Spain issued all of those albums on individual CD's in 2002.

Wow, I didn't expect anybody else (let alone two people) to mention Chad & Jeremy's version. It was my introduction also, and was the first LP I ever owned (a gift from an older brother). I even remember seeing them on the Patty Duke Show back in the day.

Probably the wrong thread, but yeah, I've been enjoying her for years and I think she's wonderful. Very talented and classy, and understands the music on a deep level. She worked with Jobim in his last years, and with Paulo and Daniel subsequent to the master's passing. I wonder if she was mentioned in one of the other Bossa/Brazilian threads... she may even deserve a thread of her own.

It's because, when Jim put in the new system, the database lost the details of what our last posts read were. So, if you haven't looked at a thread since the changeover, it'll take you to the first post. It's OK once you've started re-reading a thread since the changeover. MG Actually not, MG. This happens to me with threads I've viewed multiple times since the board change. Not only that, it sometimes happens with threads that I've viewed earlier that same day. Maybe I'll eventually see some sort of pattern to it, but not yet. I don't get it - that's the pattern I've been seeing all the time. MG ?... I'm saying there is no pattern. Sometimes I'm taken to the last post (as the button is supposed to work), and sometimes I'm taken to the first post, regardless of how recently I might have visited a thread (if at all, in fact). You said it would work correctly once I had started re-reading a thread since the changeover, and I'm saying that this hasn't been the case for me.

Correct (I've never seen a "maj7#4" either). Which is it? Not that the answer will necessarily be clear either way, but it seems like we should at least clarify that. I don't follow this. I thought you were asking about a general tendency by Aebersold to use "(X)7#4", which you (understandably) found confusing. I don't understand what "others referencing 7b5" refers to. Are you comparing another sheet for a particular song to Aebersold's, wherein the other sheet uses a 7b5 in the same spot where Aebersold indicated 7#4? Edit: Along these same lines... another question might be: doesn't Aebersold use "7b5" also, on occasion?

You mean literally, or is this your poetic way of apologizing for your behavior around here? That would drive me crazy too. I can't even deal with C# vs Db.
-
I've never encountered a "#4". I'm pretty sure I've seen a sus4 written as "+4", though. I wonder if somebody went from +4 to #4...?

I don't understand any of this, but I'm still finding that the "go to last post" link (from the "new content" page/list) still takes me to the first post instead of the last post about half the time (or maybe every third time). Mac/Sarari. No big whoop, just odd.

I'm enjoying these photos and stories. Thanks to everybody who has shared. I love dogs, and appreciate cats. Well, I'm having trouble locating a good quality photo of our beloved German Shepherd, Duchess. Maybe I'll share a better one later, but I did find a decent one to post. I've always loved German Shepherds. Had one as a kid (1960-1973), a mix actually, named Princess. In 1997, after Ebony died, we decided to get ourselves a pure-bred GS pup, and named her Duchess (that was also the name of Princess' mother, who I remember visiting our house when Princess was a puppy). Our Duchess was an alpha- nay, an ALPHA dog. She was a real handful for the first several months, but we gradually reeled her in. She was never the most affectionate dog, but if I spent enough time giving, she would eventually let down her "guard" and give back. She liked to have someone throw a fetch toy of some kind, but she would never bring it back, and if she did she wouldn't relenquish it. At least not without a struggle or some deception. Her favorite game, though, was to attack the water from a hose. Any time I tried to water the lawn or plants, Duchess would go after the stream of water as if it were some kind of menace to our safety. At times she would seem to relax, and then she would be right back at it. If I moved the stream away from her, she would chase it relentlessly, so that became a great game. She was just a beautiful creature... for me, the epitome of what a beautiful dog looks like. Around 2007, when she was about 10 years old, we entered an old photo of her (as a very young pup) in a calendar photo contest. Months went by as we waited for the results. Duchess suddenly got very sick (probaby leptospirosis, as we learned later), and we were afraid she was going to die. Just when we were waiting to see if she would pull through, we received in the mail a congratulatory letter that her puppy photo had been approved for the calendar. And she did survive. That was a wonderful time, but unfortunately her body had been weakened significantly, and she declined gradually and died about a year later. I miss her a lot, especially when I'm working out in the back yard. It's hard to decide whether to get another dog, but for now we've pretty much decided that we're done. It's not so much that we don't want to take care of one, don't have enough time to devote, or even the difficulty related to the emotional loss when they pass. It's mostly the increasing EXPENSE (!) of having a dog these days. I used to chuckle at the idea of dog health insurance, but not any longer.

Back in 1983, my wife and I chose Ebony and Ivory (both females) from a litter of German Shepherd mix pups. Their mother was a white German Shepherd, the father unknown. They were great dogs, and great companions. They shared the same doghouse, which was big enough for me to get in there with them! They loved to chase tennis balls (and sniffing them out when I'd fooled them as to where I'd thrown or hid them); and frisbees (Ebony would always be the one to catch it or pick it up, and Ivory would always try to steal it from her as they brought it back). Ebony seemed to be dominant most of the time, but when actual trouble arose (like a possum falling out of our pine tree), Ivory was the enforcer. We lost Ivory in 1994, and Ebony in 1997. This candid photo shows them at about 6 months of age, I think. We had another German Shepherd named Duchess, a pure-bred, from 1997 to 2008. I'll do a separate post on her when I find the right photo...
