Are CDs Still Worth Selling Online?
Stonewall15 replied to Kevin Bresnahan's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Here is an idea: List the CDs on a spread-sheet, sortable by Artist or Title or Label. Do not bother listing CDRs as they are not worth anything. Send the spread-sheet via email to big CD sellers like Amoeba and see if they want to buy the whole lot or significant portions. I don't think grading is important since CDs stay in good shape, not like LPs that deteriorate over time. The CDs must be in jewel cases and have all front and back matter. I do agree that selling individual CDs online is very unsatisfying. One eBay possibility is if you have a large number of CDs by a particular artist is to list them as a lot and hope that a collector buys them. -
I just acquired the rare Demano LP (FLP-1) that I was looking to trade for. Now I have the best possible outcome- I own both the LP and the 45. Thank you all for looking. Looking to trade this rare Freeway label 45rpm record for Freeway label LP FLP-1 titled "Listen to The Hank Demano Quartet". The songs on this 45 record are "Yesterday" and "Shadow of Your Smile". Neither song is on the three released Freeway 33rpm LPs (including FLP-1) or the Fresh Sound Records (FSR-910) CD reissue of FRS-500 and FLP-555. The 45 record (FR-656) plays perfectly with no noise or skips. A digital trade would work.

LF Hank Demano LP- Freeway label FLP1
Stonewall15 replied to Stonewall15's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Yes- FR-656 is distinct from SFR-656. As far as I can tell the 2 songs (Yesterday and The Shadow of Your Smile) are not on any Freeway LP. -

I just acquired a 45rpm record on the Freeway label with 2 songs by Hank Demano. The songs are "Yesterday" and "The Shadow Of Your Smile". These songs are not on the 3 released Freeway LPs. I have checked the Lord Discography and internet sources and can find no record of these 2 songs on Freeway. Do I have something rare? Possibly these 2 songs were only recorded on 45 with the objective of being played on juke boxes. They were not included on the 3 LPs since they were recorded after the LPs were released. I am still looking for the LP that is the subject of this post. -
You ought to try to explain what a slide rule is.

Stunning breakthrough: CAL-3023 that had been listed for years on Amazon for $1,048 was revised to $10.48. I immediately purchased it. Now I am looking for CAL-3025 (Candoli Brothers/Leroy Vinnegar) to complete my collection. I am willing to pay a reasonable amount for the LP, although considerably less than $1,048. As an alternative I would like to borrow the LP to make a CDR. I would then return the LP and pay any costs both way. Come on someone out there in Organissimo- help me complete my collection! I have been collecting Calliope label Sessions, Live LPs since 2012. I now have 34 of the 36 that were released. I am missing 2: CAL-3023 (Harry Babasin and Barney Kessel) and CAL-3025 (Candolis and Leroy Vinnegar). CAL-3023 is listed on Amazon for $1,048 which is a tad more than I would pay. I continually look on eBay and have listed my 2 missing LPs on Discogs with no results from either so far. Does anyone have any ideas where to look? I am willing to pay a reasonable amount (considerably less than $1,048) for either LP..

Pleased to get. -
Did the scratched CD play OK? If so, why bother with getting a refund. If it did not play OK then the above solutions should be followed.

Sony (Columbia) still needs to release "The Last Time We Saw Paris" and "Compadres" on CD. These are the only Columbia Brubeck LPs that have not been released on CD so far. I am aware of the story that Dave did not want "Paris" released, possibly because of a problem with Paul Desmond. I wonder if the tape still exists. As far as "Compadres" goes I have no idea why is has not been released on CD. "Jackpot" is one of my favorite Brubeck albums. It was recorded live at the Tropicana in Las Vegas and really swings. Who cares if the piano wasn't perfect.

Oscar Peterson session not on jazzdisco-

OP plays piano on first 5 tracks (no organ), Lee on last 3. OP cuts were recorded in NYC at the Band Box in January 1953. Boris Rose LPs on various labels are a delightful mystery. -
Looking for the following 10-inch Dale Records label LPs: 1. LP-21 Stan Getz Quintet 2. LP-22 Paul Quinechette Quintet 3. LP-23 Beryl Booker and Her Piano 4. LP-24 Wardell Gray and John Hardee Quartets 5. LP-25 Billie Holiday and Stan Getz

Sony Music Cuts Off Third Party Licensing (?!?)
Stonewall15 replied to Lush Life's topic in Re-issues
Maybe because of this Sony will release CDs of Dave Brubeck "The Last Time We Saw Paris" (CL2852/CS9672) and "Compadres".(CS9704). -
Jazz, early popular music redheads?

Red Rodney (trumpet). -
The Los Angeles Jazz Institute (LAJI) over the years has issued 15 CDs of previously unissued West Coast jazz sessions from the 1950's. These limited edition CDs were available only to LAJI members. The CDs would make a great Mosaic box set. Also a terrific booklet could accompany the CDs. Ken Poston is the director of the LAJI and should be contacted to see if he is interested in a Mosaic set.

Looking for jazz radio stations 2018
Stonewall15 replied to Stefan Wood's topic in Jazz Radio & Podcasts
WUCF-FM 89.9 in Orlando is an excellent jazz 24-7 radio station. They play classic as well as current jazz. Well worth listening to. They stream on the Internet. They broadcast from the campus of the University of Central Florida. -
For sure the last 2 cuts on disc 2 are unique. They are from a Lighthouse Allstars session.

Got mine today. Lots of duplication with previously issued Fresh Sound Records "Dodo's Bounce" (FSCD1019) and Lonehill Jazz "Complete Studio Recordings" (LHJ10119). I have not done a complete audit- I hope to find some unique cuts. Very nice booklet.

To me the greatest invention after the CD is the CD recorder. I have digitized about 500 LPs to CDR. I have worn out 3 CD recorders, 1 Philips and 2 Sonys. Most of these LPs have never been released on CD so my collection includes some rare jazz music.
