Fresh Sound Records released "Earth Dance" (FSR CD-325) featuring Anthony Ortega with a jazz orchestra. Recorded in New York in 1956 with arrangements by Nat Pierce and Bob Zieff. Three of the songs were written by Zieff. As far as I can tell these 12 tracks have not been previously issued.

The CD I have, which is not Japanese, has 8 tracks. It is Blue Note Connoisseur series 58289, copyright 2008. The tracks are: Smithville, Wetu, Embraceable You, There will Never Be Another You, Later 6:25, Au Privave, Bakin' (aka Tunesmith), and There Will Never Be Another You (mono take). Smith, Rouse and Clark are marvelous!

Kevin- many thanx for the pix. Now how do I get the CDs? -
Mikeweil- Are you making any headway moving album covers to a separate thread?
-
Are any of Bud Powell's sessions at The Haig available on CD, LP, or Youtube?
-
Why are the Album Covers posts not in the Album Covers thread instead of being in Miscellaneous Music?

I am using the optical cable output from my player going to a DAC, not the HDMI cable output. I think I am skipping the DAC in the player, which I want to do. Does this still result in an extra data conversion step?
-
Kevin- you are correct- my player is the Sony BDP-BX37. Thanx to your information I was able to re-set the playback mode and now I can play my "Kind Of Blue" SACD. I use the optical output from my player which goes to a separate DAC and then to my pre-amp. Is this satisfactory instead of using the RCA cables?
-
Kevin- many thanx for explaining my SACD problem. I play my SACDs on a Sony DVD player and cannot default to the stereo mode. Stereo/Multi-channel SACD for a Stereo-

I recently acquired the Columbia Miles Davis "Kind Of Blue" SACD (not a hybrid SACD). When I played it on my SACD player I had to turn the volume way, way up to hear the music. To make sure that I did not have a player problem I immediately played another of my SACDs and it played fine with normal volume. Does anyone have any idea what is wrong with the Miles SACD? Has anyone else had this problem with SACDs?

How about Duke Pearson and Pepper Adams? Kind of hard to call Pepper a side-man since he got lead billings with Donald Byrd.
-
I wonder if Miles switched to a muted trumpet to sound different from upcoming players such as Clifford Brown, Lee Morgan, Donald Byrd, etc.
-
When did Miles start playing almost exclusively with a muted trumpet? What caused him to do so?

Jazz pianist with amazing left hands.

Eddie Costa and Carl Perkins. -
Wade Legge, Zoot Sims, Frank Sinatra (in Australia with Red Norvo).
-
How about Marian McPartland, Dorothy Donegan, and Pat Moran?
-
What are some jazz sound tracks from movies that you like?

Opening scene credits music from "The Cincinnati Kid" cannot be beat. It is New Orleans jazz at it's best. The only way to hear it by viewing the DVD. The CD soundtrack music omits the opening credits music (I guess) because there is some narrative from Steve McQueen overlaying the music. -
I just did a comparison. The Mosaic set has the following tracks not on the 4 downloads: Mildred Bailey- Mosaic disc 3 tracks 10-13 Stuff Smith- Mosaic disc 3 tracks 14-15 Joe Sullivan- Mosaic disc 4 tracks 7-13 Count Basie- Mosaic disc 5 tracks 3,4,6,8,11,12,15,16,17,18 Count Basie- Mosaic disc 6 tracks 3,4,7,8,15,16,17 I am not positively sure about the Count Basie tracks as some of the times do not agree precisely. In any case the 2 Mosaic discs total 39 tracks and 17 are not on the downloads. In any case the Mosaic set does include all the 4 download tracks, plus the ones mentioned above.

Now that volume 4 is being released this December will there be a volume 5?
-
Brubeck was unhappy with "Jackpot" yet it finally was released on CD. Also, what is holding-up release of with "Compadres" on CD?
-
Still hoping for Brubeck "The Last Time We Saw Paris" and Brubeck/Mulligan "Compadres". Both were on Columbia LPs, now Sony.
