OK now- what is the correct answer? Red (Blue Note) or Redd (Savoy).

I have seen both ways. Which is correct? Redd or Red.

There are several Dave Brubeck Columbia LPs that have not been released on CD by Sony. Some of them have been released on European labels but these would make a nice box set from Sony or Fresh Sounds. The LPs are: 1. At Storyville (has been re-issued by Fresh Sound Records) 2. I have the CD version of Overseas, not the SACD referred to by Groover. The sound is terrific and it has 3 alternate takes that are not on the SACD.

EyeSpeech- Would it be any better if I used the coaxial output instead of the optical outout?

I play SACDs with a Sony BDP-BX37 Blu-Ray DVD/SACD player via the digital optical output to an Adcom GDA-600 DAC and then into an Adcom GFP-555II Preamp. Based on the previous discussions is the SACD being properly decoded by my Preamp? The Adcom components are fairly old and I wonder if the technology is current enough. The SACDs play beautifully and sound better that the CDs of the same music.

The Oppo BDP-103 certainly looks it will do what I want- play SACD output via an HDMI cable. However, the Oppo is very expensive. Are there any other less costly players available- either Oppo or other brands?

I am looking for a Blu-Ray DVD/SACD player that outputs the SACD audio via an HDMI cable. Are there any out there?

How many Mozart Piano Sonatas on Philips label CDs did she make in the 1980's? I have 7- is that all?

I have the Japanese CD that reissues Roost rlp-401 and 412. How do I know if it is pitch-corrected?

Tom in RI- you are right- I did error by about 10 years. As I get older time tends to compress. Remember when CDRs first came out they were limited to 74 minutes? I have many of these that I made with a Philips CD recorder and they all play beautifully. When the 80-minute CDRs came out it was great because now you could record 2 LPs onto 1 disc.

Fresh Sound has reissued the Ted Brown Vanguard LP (VRS-8515) titled "Free Wheeling" on CD.

Bill Dillard plays extensively on Vibe-rations. In 7 of the 8 tracks he has a significant solo and in all tracks has give-and-take sessions with Red Norvo. He, with Red, is given credit for composing 2 of the songs ("Rhee, Oh Rhee!" and "Porsche"). You could almost call this a Bill Dillard LP instead of Red Norvo. This LP is a "must have" for Bill Dillard fans.

I have the 1956 Red Norvo Vibe-rations LP. The notes on the back of the cover say: "In memoriam- Bill Dillard, one of the great new jazz stars, and guitarist on these sessions, lost his life shortly after these recordings were made. The tragedy thus deprived the jazz world of his genius less that a decade after his idol, Charlie Christian, passed into the great beyond. These sides were Bill's last known recordings." Since Charlie died in 1942 the "less than a decade" is not quite correct but who cares? Does anyone know how Bill Dillard lost his life?

I collect Transition label jazz sessions LPs and CDs. I think my collection is complete. Anyone out there that also collects Transition label?

When CD players/recorders first came out I was very enthusiastic about the ability to record LPs as well as playing CDs. I was able to record much of my large LP collection onto CDRs. Subsequently I have sold or given away all my LPs. The CDRs I made in the early 1980's still play beautifully.

I now do have "Montage" on CD, complete with all songs.

In the notes for the Prestige label Sonny Rollins "Moving Out" CD the term "Pushoff" is used for the song "Swingin' For Bumsy". "Pushoff" apparently is a short bridge between solos and I have never seen it used before. Are there any other examples of the "Pushoff" bridge being used? Listening to the song the "Pushoff" bridge smoothly allows for the transition between solos and I think it would be used in other sessions. I also wonder if this is rehearsed or not.

I have the Koch Jazz version and it is not a needle-drop. It is listed on Amazon for $6. I don't know about the Collectables version.

Has anyone had any problems playing ink-jet printable CDRs?

Very nice 30-minute interview. Several reminiscences about Tristano and his contemporaries. I recorded it. Thanks for the info about the broadcast.

Suggest you try playing the unplayable CDR on a DVD player. DVD players seem to be less selective about playing CDRs. Good luck.
