  1. Aw c'mon. He's so cute.
  2. Have either of Ornette Coleman's two releases on Impulse!, Crisis and Ornette At 12, ever been reissued on CD or been available as a digital download, in the U.S., Japan, or elsewhere? Thanks in advance for thoughtful replies. Hopefully this won't turn into a Denardo-bashing thread.
  3. If it were me, I'd check out the David Murray Cuban Ensemble plays Nat King Cole "En Espanol" at Birdland.
  4. When someone mentions Jim Hall (and I think he fits in with the discussion you've raised), I like to add another name: Joe Diorio. Terribly underrated, imo, his sound and style is beautiful yet chock full of ideas that keep you thinking.
  5. Although this album is credited to "Jug And Sonny", Stitt only appears on one tune, and he's playing baritone. If you want music featuring both together from this period, it's better to stick with the many sides they cut for Prestige.
  6. Any of you wise guys bother to listen to the samples Danny linked? Mind you, it's nothing earth-shattering or innovative, but the music is competently played and quite enjoyable. Very few guitar/sax duo recordings out there. It deserves a listen, imo. Sorry to learn Mr. Fortunato passed away last October.
  7. Where's the contradiction if he's heading home, as I suggested?
  8. Hey Bu! Watch out! K.D.'s gonna crush your head! crush, crush
  9. This great song is Gerry Marsden's homage to his birthplace, Liverpool. It's a busy, yet friendly place - "the place I love. And here I'll stay". I don't see that he's speaking to any one person in particular. And given that he's asking that the "ferry cross the Mersey", I assume he wants it to take him to the place he loves. The song comes from a 1965 film bearing the same name. It stars Marsden and the Pacemakers and portrays the excitement surrounding the Liverpool music scene with the rise of the Merseybeat sound.
  10. MAGNET’s Bill Meyer's picks for best jazz releases of the year: 1. MATT BAUDER Day In Pictures (Clean Feed) 2. REMPIS PERCUSSION QUARTET Montreal Parade (482 Music) 3. MATTHEW SHIPP Art Of The Improviser (Thirsty Ear) 4. ACID BIRDS Acid Birds III (Blackest Rainbow) 5. KEN VANDERMARK Strade d’Acqua/Roads Of Water (Multikulti) 6. KEITH ROWE Concentration Of The Stare (Bottrop Boy) 7. THE SPANISH DONKEY XYX (Northern Spy) 8. AMIR ELSAFFAR TWO RIVERS ENSEMBLE Inana (Pi) 9. DAVID S. WARE Organica (Aum Fidelity) 10. BILL DIXON Envoi (Victo)
  11. This topic has already been addressed Etta James.
  12. Couldn't disagree more. It's not any easy instrument to master, but those who do make it sing and swing. To my ears, a well-played bone sounds good in a big band, in a bop/hard bop/post-bop outfit, and in freer settings as well. Some people hate bass solos, others make a face when the drummer gets some. You're entitled to your personal preferences, but I think you're missing some great music by dismissing the trombone.
  13. Thanks, that was a fun video.
  14. "Down The Rhodes"? What a lame title.
  15. Understood, but you would be wrong and not entitled to that money.
  16. I thought this was a story about a lawyers' convention.
  17. You might want to steer clear of Pyle electronics. They seriously overrate the power output of their amps by advertising wattage in peak, not effective (rms) values. That "40w" mini-amp puts out 8w @ 1% THD.
  18. After weeks of trouble with the revised website and countless threads on the eMusic board chronicling people's problems and complaints, I'm amused by members who still feel the need to start new threads saying, "I don't like the new design. It doesn't work. You don't care about us. If you don't change it back, I'm outta here!". In addition, there are those who make a point to post a quick snipe on each and every thread, just so everyone is reminded that they're one of the mob. Anyone who does make a move toward the door receives an additional month's credit for free as an incentive to stay. I've never read anyone say, "No, you can't buy me off. I meant it, I'm gone". Instead, it's "Well okay, I'll take your free gift, but in another month I'm outta here!" How many will actually leave for good remains to be seen, but I'm sure they'll slam the door a few times on the way out.
  19. Not sure where you got this information, but the obituary you linked to says he appeared on hundreds of recordings in a career that spanned 70 years.
  20. I've noticed fluctuations in the price on various non-music items in the save for later section of my shopping cart from time to time. I doubt it's the result of manipulation but instead, a reflection of fluctuations in the cost of the items. If a distributor raises the cost, Amazon would understandably increase the price. My experience has been that prices drop as much, if not more, than they increase.
  21. Now these are baffling (as well as a bit nauseating)!
