    "missing"?
  2. Why is your member name "JSngry" and not "jsngry"? As Alan pointed out, it makes it easier to parse your name.
  3. There have been injuries to people reaching for a baseball in the past, but this story struck me as being particularly sad: Texas Rangers fan dies, fell reaching for ball By STEPHEN HAWKINS, AP Fri Jul 8, 7:41 AM EDT A Texas Rangers fan died after falling about 20 feet onto concrete reaching out for a baseball tossed his way by All-Star outfielder Josh Hamilton during a game. Shannon Stone, a 39-year-old firefighter from Brownwood, died at a hospital Thursday night, the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office said. Stone was a lieutenant and had been with the Brownwood Fire Department nearly 18 years, said City Manager Bobby Rountree. Brownwood is about 150 miles southwest of Arlington. Stone was at the game with his young son, who watched as his dad tumbled over the outfield railing after catching the ball. Full story
  4. St. Vitus, only.
  5. I know it's been quite a while since the last free credit code, so enjoy this one. Go to any page an mp3 is being sold and click on "Redeem a gift card or promotion code & view balance" in the upper right corner. Enter the code: CLOUDMP3. The credit is now in your account and won't expire, in case you don't want to spend it right away.
  6. Since we're posting good deals from Storyville, may I suggest: Howard McGhee, Teddy Edwards & Benny Bailey - Jazzcraft Studio Recordings 1978-79 This 2CD set, also only $4.40 at eMusic, contains the LPs Young At Heart & Wise In Time by McGhee & Edwards, as well as Home Run by McGhee & Bailey. Not the best work by these fine artists, but there's plenty of good swinging to go around, imo.
  7. One of the lesser-known but not-to-be-missed musicians performing this year is Jeremy Kahn and the Pepper Adams Project. Again, that's this guy: Not this guy:
  8. As sad as Winehouse's personal ordeal is, I'm more disturbed by people's attraction to her suffering. She's more well-known for the tragedy that is her life than she is for her music.
  9. Nice article by James Gavin in the December 2001 issue of JazzTimes, Homophobia In Jazz, including quotes from Chris A.
  10. Funny, it made me think of RoboCop.
  11. Another for Monoprice. Good quality, inexpensive, and no bullshit.
  12. According to TMZ: Randy "Macho Man" Savage will be cremated and his ashes co-mingled with the ashes of his loyal pooch, Hercules. Savage's brother, Lanny Poffo, tells TMZ, "the dog's ashes were spread around Randy's favorite tree several years ago, and after Randy is cremated his ashes will be strewn there as well."
  13. Cool-lookin' piece of vinyl Chewy. Imagine if you had a turntable with a clear glass platter with a light beneath it. That record reminds me of this one below. I bought when it first came out and still have it to this day.
  14. Yes, and I'm especially glad to see Bunky Green's Places We've Never Been and the two dates by Dave Burns for download. I wish they were cheaper, but they're $3-4 more everywhere else.
  15. Don't be sad, Chewy. Even after two guys resolve a difference, it can take others a little while to realize "there ain't no fight". I appreciate your efforts to enliven the vinyl forum with your interesting posts about records. And I'm sure we all appreciate the energy and enthusiasm your bring to the board as a whole. Keep spinnin'. Btw, my condo unit number is 33. Couldn't get them to add "1/3".
  16. PM sent re: Kenny Wheeler - Windmill Tilter
  17. I'll be there Wednesday through Saturday, my fifth year attending. The tribute to Billy Bang will be a somber occasion, as he had been a mainstay at the festival during the past few years. Our favorite paparazzo, Mark Sheldon, will also be there. If you're interested in hanging out or just meeting to say "hi", send me a PM.
  18. No one seriously suggested moving this thread, including me. Chewy is posting his vinyl discussions in the vinyl forum, and posting his other discussions here and, presumably, elsewhere as well. I predict the vinyl forum will be enriched as a result of his interesting contributions. It's done. Get over it. Try following Chewy's example and contribute something positive, rather than trying to start an argument where one doesn't exist.
  19. Dude, the overwhelming majority of the threads you start are about vinyl, especially topics like "you won't believe what LP I found!" and "I found this LP, does anyone know about [insert question about other vinyl releases]?" Chewy, you've made it known that you treasure vinyl, and that currently you're collecting vinyl much more than any other media. Although you may occasionally post in the vinyl forum, you always start your vinyl threads in the artists forum. There's one exception to this rule, and that's your Wes Montgomery thread. That's in the vinyl forum because a moderator moved it there. I've got nothing against you or your vinyl-oriented discussions. You've admitted that the reason you post in the artists forum where it will get more views and input. Everybody wants their topic to get attention and develop into a meaningful discussion. What do you think would happen if we all did this? Chewy, I'm really only asking that you start a conversation where it's most appropriate. It's not that difficult. The rest of us do it. Sure there will be exceptions, and there's nothing wrong with that. Just try it for a while. You'll probably make the vinyl forum a more popular place to hang out as a result.
  20. This thread concerns a rare vinyl record. Please move this discussion to the Vinyl forum. Thank you.
  21. Seriously? Oh well, you should be fine as long as you don't eat the CDs.
  22. Jazz dirty? I thought that was "jizz".
  23. Your turn to vex the gods. I shall do what a 10-year-old client of mine once did at school. He got permission to use the bathroom, and when he returned, he was wearing his clothes backwards (i.e., buttons and fly in the back, shoes on the opposite foot). This alarmed the teacher and his mother so much that they insisted I have a serious talk with him. Our conversation was short and to the point. I asked him if what they said was true. He nodded, "yes". I then said, "Did you put all of your clothes on backwards?" He took a few seconds, and with a sly grin he replied, "Well, not all of them". Convinced that he had exercised proper foresight and taken the necessary precautions to guard against (very) personal injury, I proudly announced, "You sir, are a genius!" So be forewarned all ye on Mount Olympus, for this very day I shall don my garments retrograde and contrariwise in defiance. Be so vexed!
